On Dec. 16, an email from an unknown person was sent to Pine Forge Academy threatening the destruction of its computer system and property if demands were not met, according to a press release issued by state police in Reading.

<![CDATA[Kutztown Elementary Students, staff perform 1,000 acts of kindness]]> Kutztown Elementary students and staff performed more than 1,000 random acts of kindness and spread joy in the community during December.

"I'm really proud of our students," said Principal Deb Barnes. "They were very focused on spreading joy to others and doing kind things for people in the community, their classmates, their families, so it really spread a lot of warm feelings throughout the community.

<![CDATA[Hamburg Area School District Superintendent's resignation accepted]]> After eight years at the helm, Hamburg Area's top administrator has decided that it's time for a change.

Superintendent Steven Keifer submitted his resignation to school directors, who voted to accept the resignation on Dec. 15.

"I feel like it's the right time," Keifer said. "We did a lot to move the district forward.

<![CDATA[Roundabouts, widening and additional turning lanes planed for Route 222, Maidencreek, Richmond and Maxatawny townships]]> Pennsylvania Department of Transportation representatives presented plans for Route 222 during a public open house at Fleetwood High School Dec. 17.

"PennDOT was invited by Sen. Argall and Sen. Schwank to attend the meeting to discuss safety along the US 222 corridor and present our plans for upcoming construction projects," said Sean Brown, Safety Press Officer, PA Department of Transportation, Engineering District 5.

Dec. 27, 1989 >> Army Captain Thomas Muir, 29, was injured last week in the U.S. invasion of Panama. Captain Muir is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Robert Muir, 100 Club House Drive, Bernville. A bullet pierced Muir's helmet and struck his face. The serviceman suffered cheek and nose fractures and cuts that required 72 stitches.
