The recipient of this award may be an individual, civic group, non-profit organization or a combination of all three.

Being recognized this year for enhancing the Boyertown community is the Colebrookdale Railroad Preservation Trust and the many volunteers who are helping to make the Colebrookdale Line a success.

<![CDATA[Boyertown rescue crews report to rollover crash]]> On Saturday, April 11, at 9:55 p.m. Boyertown Area Fire & Rescue was dispatched to a rollover crash with injuries and possible entrapment in Douglass Township, Berks, on Farmington Avenue at the industrial complex between Englesville Hill Road and Farmington Avenue to assist State Police.

Boyertown Ambulance and Gilbertsville Ambulance transported both occupants to Lehigh Valley Hospital.

"Technology education looks very different in different schools but these students have emerged as leaders among their peers in some form of technology education," said Kutztown Superintendent Kathy Metrick, introducing the honored students one at a time.

<![CDATA[Richmond Elementary Principal kisses pig for reading challenge]]> Richmond Elementary Principal Michelle Jackson kissed a pig on Friday, April 17.

Jackson had challenged her students that if they each read 75 books by this time, she would kiss a pig. And kiss a pig she did.

The noise in the auditorium was deafening as Jackson opened the stage curtain to reveal a pig in a red wagon.

<![CDATA[Fleetwood Kindergarteners meet 'Number One Sam' author; encouraged to create their own books]]> Fleetwood School District's 165 kindergarten students met the author and illustrator of "Number One Sam" at Willow Creek Elementary on April 16.

"I draw pictures for a living," Greg Pizzoli told the students. "I get to create my world."

Pizzoli shared humorous photos of himself and his early drawings, eliciting laughter and shouts from the young readers.

<![CDATA[High school exchange student shadows Senator Argall in Capitol]]> A Wilson Area High School exchange student from Norway, Sander Nygaard, spent Tuesday April 14 shadowing Senator David G. Argall (R-Schuylkill/Berks) at the state Capitol.

Nygaard joined Argall for a scheduled Senate session day in Harrisburg and participated in a range of events with the Senator, including meeting with local constituents advocating for legislation, a press conference where the Senator introduced a proposal to provide relief for architecture students, speaking with students from a local school district, and a meeting to discuss property tax reform.

<![CDATA[PennDOT to resurface PA 10 and PA 724 in Berks County]]> The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) District 5 announced today PA 10 and PA 724 in Berks County will be resurfaced beginning April 27.

The pavement improvement project is financed with funds from Pennsylvania's transportation plan, Act 89. Work includes base repairs, milling, paving and new pavement markings on PA 10 between PA 724 and Interstate 176 in Cumru Township; PA 10 between PA 23 and Interstate 76/PA Turnpike in Caernarvon Township and New Morgan Borough; and PA 724 between Interstate 176 and PA 10 in Cumru Township.

<![CDATA[Sen. Schwank: 5 New Farms Added to PA's Farmland Preservation Program]]> Berks County's reputation as a leader in farmland preservation grew by another 406 acres on April 16 when the Pennsylvania Agricultural Land Preservation Board added five farms to the historic program.

The preservation board, of which Sen. Judy Schwank is a member, valued the tracts at $1,015,000.
