They were a group of one horse farmers who never became familiar with the Industrial Revolution, still farming on the one horse farms with dairy cows to meet their families household needs in the backwoods of the Oley Hills where automated John Deere modern tractors were first becoming fashionable.

<![CDATA[Man walking dog discovers Fleetwood garage fire; Police believe fire started on outside of building, considered suspicious]]> A Fleetwood man walking his dog early on Aug. 31 discovered a fire at a garage on Franklin Street.

According to a Fleetwood Borough Police report issued by Chief Steven Stinsky, at about 1:22 a.m., a man walking his dog in the 100 block of Madeira Alley noticed smoke coming from a detached garage located at the rear of 115 N.

Dr. William Donner of Kutztown University runs the essay contest.

Emily Stemmler, who was a KU Professional Semester student in my fifth grade class, introduced the essay contest to my class and taught them how to develop the essay.

<![CDATA[Wedding Announcement: Timothy A. Schearer, of Kutztown, recently married]]> Timothy A. Schearer and Marianne Bjonnes were recently married in Hamilton, New Jersey.

Timothy is the son of Fredric and Miriam Schearer of Kutztown. Marianne is the daughter of Lawrence and Roseann Bjonnes of Hazlet, New Jersey and Ocala, Florida.

Timothy, a graduate of the Kutztown School District and Penn State University, is a Nuclear Engineer working for Exelon Generation in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania.

<![CDATA[Berks author publishes children's book on diabetes awareness]]> The Gift, a children's book focused on diabetes awareness and written by Berks County author Joseph J. Swope, will be published Sept. 17 by Black Rose Writing.

The Gift was inspired by a true story involving Swope's wife, Selena, a Type 1 diabetic, while she was attending nursing school. The book is illustrated by Swope's oldest daughter, Chandra.
