<![CDATA[Kutztown Borough Rooftop Ban Ordinance approved for drafting]]> A Rooftop Ban Ordinance was approved to enter into the drafting phase at the Kutztown Borough Council meeting Oct. 21, and a new finance director was appointed to fill the full-time gap that has been vacant since mid-July.

The Rooftop Ban Ordinance was brought before the Council by the Community Development and Public Safety sub-committee, which is chaired by Council member Peggy Devlin.

In addition to promoting 4-H in the parade, Rocky Mountain Riders performed a community service project of cleaning up candy wrappers and trash along the parade routes.

<![CDATA[Three Berks County farms help PA to become first in U.S. to preserve 500,000 Acres, Schwank says]]> Pennsylvania became the first state in the country recently to preserve 500,000 acres of valuable farmland and three Berks County farms helped accomplish the milestone, Sen. Judy Schwank said.

"Berks County is a big reason the commonwealth has protected half a million acres of farmland," Schwank said following the Pennsylvania Farmland Preservation Board's recent meeting at Flinchbaugh's Orchard and Farm Market.

First Lady Susan Corbett launched the statewide art contest, titled, "Art: The Universal Language". The contest was open to any Pennsylvanian who receives services with special education.
