<![CDATA[Police officers meet in Hamburg for Below 100 Program]]> Forty-nine police officers from 22 police departments representing both Schuylkill and Berks County met at Hamburg Area High School on Tuesday, March 24, to participate in the Below 100 Program that aims to reduce the line-of-duty deaths of police officers to less than 100 per year.

"I think it is important because it emphasizes Officer safety using common sense," said Joe O'Donnell, a retired Police Officer from the City of Pottsville and Traffic Safety Coordinator for North Central Highway Safety.

<![CDATA[Schuylkill Valley High School Marching Band, Concert Band And Chorus perform at the Walt Disney World Resort]]> Members of Schuylkill Valley High School Marching Band, Concert Band and Chorus became stars of their own Disney show on March 15 and March 16 when they entertained resort guests at the Magic Kingdom Park and Melody Gardens Theater in the Epcot Park. The group traveled more than 1,000 miles from Leesport to the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida to take part in the Disney Performing Arts Program.

<![CDATA[Fleetwood couple celebrates 50th Anniversary]]> Darlene and Martin Younker, Fleetwood, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on March 27.

They were married on March 27, 1965 at Frieden's Lutheran Church, New Ringgold. The ceremony was performed by the late Rev. Charles Orem.

To celebrate the anniversary, a surprise party was by their children at the Virginville Fire Company.

<![CDATA[Annual banquet celebrates beauty and bounty of outdoors at Salem EC Church]]> The third Annaul Sportsmen's Banquet at Salem EC Church, Lenhartsville, included something for everyone. Organizers of the banquet were pleased with the event, with approximately 125 in attendance. The afternoon and evening included interactive vendors, tasty food and an entertaining speaker.

"I organize the banquet every year as an outreach opportunity to fellow outdoorsmen (and women & children!)," Cori Dixon, chair of the event, said.
