The chances of it tipping off the ramp were always present. Besides the weight, there is the ramp to deal with. One must get enough momentum to hit the ramp, drive it all the way into the bed and stop before hitting the bulkhead of the truck.

Sam is a member of Troop 184, sponsored by St. John's Lutheran Church, Hamburg. He served in various leadership roles including assistant patrol leader, senior patrol leader and junior assistant scoutmaster.

<![CDATA[Fourth annual Car & Motorcycle Show held at Cabela's]]> The fourth annual Cabela's Car & Motorcycle Show in honor of Skylar Kauffman was held this past Sunday, Oct. 19. The event, held under beautiful autumn skies, attracted about 200 entries despite temperatures in the low fifties and wind chills making it feel more like the forties. With Halloween right around the corner a number of the car enthusiasts decorated their vehicles accordingly.

<![CDATA[Kutztown High School Student Council hosts 5th Quarter free concert for students]]> Last Friday, October 17, Kutztown Area High School Student Council hosted the "5th Quarter" after their home football game. This free event was created in order to allow kids to hang out after the game in a safe and fun environment.

As students from every grade gathered to snack on cookies and brownies, the band, Creating Space, made their public debut.

<![CDATA[Iron Chef heats up Hamburg for fourth year on Nov. 2]]> As it has for the past three years in Hamburg, the first Sunday of November will heat up with the fourth annual Iron Chef Hamburg. An afternoon of food and healthy competition begins at 1 p.m. on Nov. 2 at Hamburg Area High School.

Competing against last year's champion Crowne Plaza Hotel in this year's main competition are the top two People's Choice winners from last year Stirling House and Haag's Hotel.

"Receiving the title of PA State Dairy Princess is truly a dream come true," said Mohn. "I am looking forward to interacting with consumers and sharing the Pennsylvania dairy farmer's story throughout the state.

<![CDATA[Woman's Club of Strausstown visits Light Victorian Farmhouse for annual mystery tour]]> For the members of the Woman's Club of Strausstown, the October meeting usually means getting out and about on a kind of mystery tour. They've visited a winery, a railroad museum, a historic church, and other area places of interest. This year's jaunt saw the ladies traveling just over the border into Lebanon County to the Light Victorian Farmhouse, where they enjoyed a delicious buffet dinner seated in the dining room and parlor of the beautifully restored house.

<![CDATA[Kline approved as acting council president at Shoemakersville Borough Council meeting]]> Shoemakersville Borough Council approved new contracts for trash hauling and recycling with Republic Services, Leesport, pending solicitor approval on Oct. 7.

Each contract is for two years plus two one-year options and begins on Nov. 1, according to solicitor Keith Mooney.

The yearly costs of the new contracts to the borough will be $162 per residence for trash hauling and $34 per residence for recycling.
