Their rescuer found them in the woods when they were kittens, and she gave them all the TLC they needed to make them well and strong.

Faith is a beautiful little calico whose nickname is Bubbles because as a kitten her purrs sounded like bubbles.

He kept notes on his findings which were eventually published as his "journal." It is his observations on the Pennsylvania Germans of nearby Berks and Lancaster Counties that are our principle interest here.

<![CDATA[Honey Brook: 32 compete in Spring Bocce Ball Tournament]]> The Memorial Day weekend in Honey Brook got off to a great start on Saturday May 23 when 32 people representing 8 teams played in the annual Spring Bocce Ball Tournament at the Honey Brook Borough courts.

Blessed with a beautiful day, the event was filled with keen bocce competition in the double elimination tournament and a break for a lunch where all the players ate like a family.

<![CDATA[Local athletes take part in state track & field meet]]> SHIPPENSBURG >> Garden Spot High School junior Javon McIntyre finished sixth in the boys Class AAA 400-meter dash with a time of 49.90 seconds during the PIAA Track & Field Championships at Seth Grove Stadium on the campus of Shippensburg University on May 22-23.

In the girls Class AAA 4x800, Twin Valley placed 10th in the Heat 1 preliminaries May 22 with a time of 9:43.

<![CDATA[Resident questions new Boyertown School Board policy for asking questions]]> Since last August, residents of the Boyertown Area School District have been offered the chance to ask the administration questions online.

Few have elected to do so.

At Tuesday's school board meeting, Superintendent Richard Faidley requested that a resident asking questions during public comment also submit those questions through the online form.

<![CDATA[Birdsboro man charged with double homicide in Reading]]> A Birdsboro man is being charged with a double homicide that took place Wednesday morning, May 27, after turning himself in to Reading Police two hours after the shooting.

Reading police responded to the sounds of gunshots Wednesday at 2:46 a.m., according to Sgt. John Solecki.

An officer who was only one block away at the time of the shooting found the bodies of Brenda Cisneros, 22, of Reading, and Jhamar S.

Boyertown Area Multi-Service recently purchased a new bus through a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

<![CDATA[Volunteers serve meal at Hope Rescue Mission]]> A group of fifteen people, members of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Boyertown, travelled out to Reading to serve a meal at Hope Rescue Mission on Sunday, May 3.

The mission is a place of refuge for homeless men in Berks County. The group prepared the meal ahead of time at St. John's and then served 95 men a delicious meal of ham, potato stuffing, green beans, corn, fruit cup, rolls and dessert.

<![CDATA[Boyertown's Dylan Eddingher takes home a bronze at PIAA Track & Field Championships]]> It was a weekend to remember for Boyertown senior Dylan Eddingher at the PIAA Track & Field Championships at Shippensburg University's Seth Grove Stadium May 22 and 23. Eddinger came home with a third-place bronze medal in the Class AAA 800-meter run withd a time of 1:51.19 in the finals.

Eddinger had run the top time in the trials of the 800 Friday with a 1:54.

<![CDATA[Hamburg Game Association holds 58th Children's Fishing Rodeo]]> Area children enjoyed the sport of fishing at the Hamburg Game Association's Children's Fishing Rodeo, a long-time annual event held this year on Saturday and Sunday, May 16 and 17. Over both days, 283 youngsters -- accompanied by parents and grandparents -- caught 537 trout, pulled from the association's beautiful pond.
