I remember hearing Charlie Daniels playing "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" for the first time. Even being a viola player I had a hard time understanding how to play it. At my best I could only manage to play about 85 percent of it and then not quite up to speed.

<![CDATA[Christmas tradition continues for Boyertown Girl Scout Troops]]> It is a tradition for the Girl Scouts of Brownie Troop 1759 and Junior Troop 1854 to visit Walnut Woods each year to sing Christmas carols.

On Monday, Dec. 1, the girls sang many songs that included Silent Night Holy Night, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and Jingle Bell Rock. Many of the residents of Walnut Woods, who attended the event, sang along.

<![CDATA[Amity Township residents to see no tax increase]]> The Amity Township Board of Supervisors unanimously approved on Dec. 17 a 2015 budget of $4 million with no tax increase.

Taxes will remain at 1.95 mills.

Properties with an assessed value of $100,000 pay an annual tax bill of $195.

Township Manager Charles E. Lyon confirmed that the township will receive $165,000 in earned income tax revenue by Dec.

<![CDATA[St. Mary youth present 'First Christmas' play]]> A nativity play is an honored tradition in churches across the nation, and the youth of St. Mary Parish, Tilden Twp., were no exception this year. The church held a program, "The First Christmas" featuring the children and teenagers of the congregation on Saturday, Dec. 13, in the Ave Maria Hall.

Two costumed "angels" greeted guests as they entered the hall, wearing tinsel halos and handing out programs.

<![CDATA[Santa stops for breakfast at Schuylkill Valley Community Library]]> Santa Claus has been quite busy this month making multiple stops throughout the area including hardware stores, train stations, motorcycle shops, workshops at various locations, farmers markets and more. On Saturday, Dec. 13, the man in the red suit decided to catch up on some reading with plenty of friends with a visit to the Schuylkill Valley Community Library in Leesport.
