During the Tuesday, Sept. 16 Exeter Township School Board voting meeting, the board updated their tobacco use policy to include electronic cigarettes and tobacco-related devices. The district wide tobacco use policy was last updated on April 14, 2011.

<![CDATA[Exeter board allows parental option for Chromebook insurance]]> The Exeter Township School Board voted against the purchase of approximately over 1,000 Chromebooks at a price ranging between $375,000 and $405,000 during their Tuesday, Sept. 16 meeting. The requested purchase would result in providing Chromebooks for students in grades 10 through 12. The vote was eight to one against the purchase of the computers, and would have expanded an already existing program the district is currently using for the ninth graders this school year.

I-105 radio personality Casey Allyn, will be signing copies of her newest cookbook at this year's Oley Community Fair on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The book, compiled each year, is comprised from the hundreds of recipes Allyn receives from listeners. She searches through and tries many before selecting the best for print.

<![CDATA[Eagle Scout patches parking lot at American Legion Post 626 Birdsboro]]> Richard Wike, a junior at Exeter Senior High School and member of Troop 333, put some work towards his Eagle Scout project recently with the American Legion Post 626 Birdsboro.

Wike patched major cracks in the legion's parking lot and repainting the parking space lines. Wike continues to work towards his Eagle Scout badge, as he still has four merit badges to obtain.

<![CDATA[2nd Annual Bark For Life of Boyertown area to be held Event will take place at Oley Valley Fairgrounds once again]]> The second annual Bark For Life of Boyertown Area will take place Sunday, Oct. 5, at the Oley Valley Fairgrounds.

Registration will open at 10 a.m. and is also available online. Parking will be available at the fairgrounds. Activities are scheduled throughout the day.

The American Cancer Society Bark For Life is a noncompetitive walk event for dogs and their owners to raise funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society's fight against cancer.

Weaver's Orchard, Morgantown, held the 3rd Annual Hard to the Core 5k Mud Run this past Saturday. Many families came to support loved ones and run themselves. They ran for the sole cause of cancer.

<![CDATA[Boyertown Historical Society sells calendars, holds paranormal investigations]]> The Boyertown Historical Society will begin rolling out their end of the year calendar of events beginning this weekend Sept. 19 and 20 with a paranormal investigation and several Haunted Boyertown ghost tours.

Past paranormal investigations of the Society's building had skeptics and believers alike rubbing goosebumps from arms as a woman's presence thought to have died from tuberculosis or that of a little boy trapped in an upstairs room were discovered by investigators.

<![CDATA[Kutztown Overlay Districts fail to pass; Silk Mill District shelved]]> Kutztown >> The motion for Overlay Districts failed to pass Tuesday night, shelving the Silk Mill District land development proposal.

A motion made by Kutztown Borough Council member Peggy Devlin to recommend for the Planning Commission to move forward with developing an overlay district in the industrial zone, most commonly known as the Silk Mill District with restrictions on student housing, was not seconded on Tuesday night, effectively ending the Silk Mill District land development proposal for now.
