I was encouraged to write this letter in support of the Willow Street development project after reading Nancy Unger's letter that appeared in the Patriot two weeks ago.

Nancy's argument makes perfect sense to me and to other senior citizens of the borough and surrounding area who must consider "down-sizing" in the near future.

<![CDATA[Union wants a turn lane for River Bridge Road]]> The Union Township Board of Supervisors unanimously approved on Aug. 19 for Board Chairman Donald E. Basile to meet with Penn DOT officials on Sept. 10 or 11 regarding the installation of a left turn lane from Route 724 eastbound onto northbound River Bridge Road.

Basile said at the board's July 21 meeting that two homeowners along Route 724 have agreed to allow use of their property for installation of the turn lane.

<![CDATA[Amity to study road improvement costs]]> The Amity Township Board of Supervisors unanimously approved to accept the Roadway Sufficiency Analysis report prepared by Bogia Engineering, Inc., Wyomissing, during the Aug. 21 meeting. Supervisor Richard L. Gokey was absent from the meeting.

Acceptance of the report's findings regarding current and future projected conditions of the township's roads, will allow the Planning Commission to move forward with calculating the necessary capital improvement costs.

<![CDATA[Governor Mifflin board addresses grievances of a divorced dad and gives the nod to several projects, appointments]]> A range of initiatives and activities for 2014-2015, covering the curriculum and extra-curricular, received the nod from the Governor Mifflin School District Board members at the Aug. 18 board meeting even as one parent drew attention to a particularly vexatious administrative loophole.

Among the special presentations was an exposition on "Mustang Nation" by the High School SGA.

<![CDATA[Life is peachy at St. Paul's UCC]]> St. Paul's UCC, Amityville, raised as much as $10,000 to help fund missions and to support the church's Family Life Mission Center at their annual Peach Festival on Aug. 16. The festival included fun for the whole family and peaches, peaches, peaches.

Between 400 and 500 peach lovers attended the event and enjoyed food, fun, and music.

<![CDATA[Burglary and car thefts reported in Alsace and Pike Townships]]>


In the commission of a burglary, an unknown person gained entry into a Pike Township residence through an unlocked front door between Aug. 16 and Aug. 21. A hunting cross-bow and acoustic guitar were removed from the residence. The person then fled in an unknown direction. If anyone has any information, contact Pennsylvania State Police at 610-378-4011 and refer to incident number L01-1331946.
