<![CDATA[State Police: York man taken into custody for public drunkenness]]> On Nov. 22 at approximately 2:32 a.m., State Police from the Reading station responded to Route 222 in Maxatawny Township, about a half north of the Virginville exit, after receiving several reports of an unknown male walking in traffic around the location.

Upon arriving at the scene, the man, a 33 year old from York, was located walking on the southbound shoulder of the road.

<![CDATA[Fleetwood Police: Two car collision on Arch Street]]> On Nov. 22, Fleetwood Police responded to a two car crash that occurred at the intersection of Arch Street and North Franklin Street in Fleetwood.

The collision occurred at approximately 8:06 p.m. as the first driver, Jordan Napoli, 20, of Canadensis, was traveling north on N. Franklin Street.

<![CDATA[Dr. Roger Whitcomb to speak to Kutztown Rotary]]> Dr. Roger Whitcomb will explain the complicated relationship between Russia and Syria in an open presentation to the Kutztown Rotary Club in the President's Room (Room 250) of the McFarland Student Union Building, Kutztown University at 7 p.m. on Dec. 9.

The presentation will be open to the public and will cover Russia's historic relationship with Syria and the Assad regime and its implications to the Middle East conflict.

<![CDATA[Kutztown Community Choir to perform annual Christmas Concert]]> The annual KCC Christmas choral concert has been scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 13 at 3 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 357 W. Main Street, Kutztown.

The concert will feature holiday music from around the world, including carols from the Ukraine, Africa and Scandinavia. The choir will also perform a beautiful selection of sacred and classical pieces, including Randall Thompson's Alleluia and three movements from Vivaldi's Gloria.

<![CDATA[Fleetwood senior Carl Fortna, Jr. earns All-State cross country honor]]> Fleetwood senior Carl Fortna finished 19th at the PIAA AA State Cross Country Championships recently held in Hershey, earning a selection to the PA All-State Team. This honor is in addition to him placing third at the Berks County Championships held at Kutztown University, as well as a sixth place finish at the PA District III Championships held at Big Spring High School in Newville.

<![CDATA[Fleetwood Brownie Troop visits Camp Mosey Wood for 'Pony Days']]> Fleetwood Girl Scout Brownie Troop 144 visited Camp Mosey Wood for the day to enjoy a special event they host called "Pony Days." During the course of the day, the girls learned basic horse safety, which included the proper way to put on a helmet. They got to meet the horses and pet them. After learning more horse skills, each of the girls got to ride a horse as they were led around a ring three times.

<![CDATA[State Police: Two charged with DUI, possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia]]> State Police, Hamburg report that two men, ages 22 and 20, were charged with DUI and possession of drug paraphernalia.

On Nov. 28 at 1:52 a.m., the 22-year-old man from Leesport (names were withheld by police) was observed driving a vehicle that was weaving back and forth and failing to maintain the lane of travel on Old Route 22 from Hamburg Borough to Monument Road in Windsor Township.

<![CDATA[Fleetwood Girl Scouts learn about Colonial living]]> Fleetwood Girl Scout Daisy Troop 1956 took an outing to the Old Dry Road Farm in Wernersville. The girls had the opportunity to churn their own butter, candle dip, make toys out of wooden clothes pins and practice Scherenschnitte (paper cutting). The girls had a great time and have a new appreciation for the more advanced times that we live in now.

<![CDATA[Amity allocates more money to Boone Library]]> The Amity Township Board of Supervisors unanimously approved on Nov. 18 to advertise its 2016 $4.183 million budget with no tax increase.

Supervisors Terry L. Jones and Dave Hackett were absent from the meeting.

Taxes will remain at 1.95 mills.

Properties with an assessed value of $100,000 pay an annual tax bill of $195.

<![CDATA[Spotted Lanternfly quarantine spreads in Berks, Montco]]> AMITY >> The Amity Township Board of Supervisors announced at their Nov. 18 meeting that Amity and Douglass (Berks) townships are now under a limited movement quarantine issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture.

Amity's quarantine is due to sightings of the invasive pest -- the Spotted Lanternfly -- on Pine Forge Road and Route 662.
