The miniTHON was a microcosm of The Pennsylvania State University's "THON," which is an event that raises money for the Four Diamonds Fund, a charity that benefits pediatric cancer research and assists families with children that have cancer.

<![CDATA[Viral video wins first, helps Kutztown University student's family]]> A Kutztown University freshman Jessii Fossburg needed a viral video to get 500,000 views to win a contest to help her mother.

Derek DeShane, who produced the video, pledged the grand prize of $50,000 to help her mother Patti Coyne Powell, 41, stricken with cancer and financial difficulties.

Although the video did not reach 500,000 views, it won first place and resulted in a complete surprise for everyone involved.

While perusing the code last fall, he noticed that the commissioners were responsible for investment options regarding the county's sizeable budget surplus.

"Most were operating under the erroneous assumption that the treasurer had this responsibility," Scott said.

A few suggestions were made Tuesday, Feb. 24, while several board members reminded each other and those watching that they will not allow a 6-percent increase become the final product of the budget.

<![CDATA[Graffiti plagues Morgantown businesses, Police say arrest is imminent]]> Graffiti has been scrawled on Morgantown businesses for the past couple of months. Caernarvon Township Police intend to make an arrest shortly.

"We had some vandalism, graffiti, going on for the last couple of months, a pretty long time," said Sergeant John Scalia, officer in charge at Caernarvon Township Police Department in Berks County.

She "developed a love for books and libraries at a young age," Donaldson wrote to Tri County Record.

Donaldson volunteered at her local library while attending high school in Paraguay. Having grown up in South America, she is fluent in both English and Spanish.

<![CDATA[Letter to the Editor: Thank you, volunteers, for your shoveling help]]> This winter we have had more snow and ice than in an average year. As senior citizens living on West Main Street of Kutztown, my husband and I appreciate the opportunity to have younger volunteers from Operation Snowflake help us to clear the sidewalk in front of our home and yard.

When we checked our walkways early Sunday morning on February 22nd, we saw the four plus inches of snow and realized we will need to shovel again before we could try to go to our church in the Oley Valley.

That's the number of pushups California University of Pennsylvania students did over the last approximately four weeks to raise awareness about the rising tide of military suicides. They gathered every day at 11:22 a.m. on the campus Quad to complete the exercise, regardless of the weather.
