Heather Delp, 39, died Friday, Aug. 14, as the result of a vehicle accident on Interstate 78 in Weisenberg Township, Lehigh County. The single mother of six was a daughter of Thomas and Dolores Young, Greenwich Township.

<![CDATA[BB&T to acquire National Penn Bancshares for $1.8B]]> North Carolina-based BB&T Corp. and National Penn Bancshares Inc. has announced an agreement under which BB&T will acquire National Penn in a cash and stock transaction valued at approximately $1.8 billion.

National Penn, headquartered in Allentown, has $9.6 billion in assets, $6.7 billion in deposits and 124 banking offices in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland.

<![CDATA[Penn State Master Gardeners of Berks County to hold annual plant sale with a difference]]> Penn State Master Gardeners of Berks County will hold their annual fall plant sale on Friday, Sept. 11 from 12 to 7 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 12, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The sale is held at the Berks County Agricultural Center, County Welfare Road, Bern Township, near the Reading Fairgrounds.

"The difference in our plant sale is personal attention and education," said Beth Finlay, Master Gardener Coordinator.

But it's not too late to have some summer-style fun with your family in the next few weeks. And what could be more summery than a trip to the local public pool?

Afternoons at the pool near my suburban DC home were a staple of my childhood, and I was surprised to realize when considering options for a Fun Friday activity that my children had rarely experienced such an outing (we have a small, aboveground pool at home that we generally use).

<![CDATA[Hamburg Boy Scout earns Eagle Scout rank]]> John J. Schultz III, 16, son of John and Rose Schultz, Hamburg, has earned the rank of Eagle Scout.

John's Eagle Scout project involved building a 16" by 16" deck near the scout cabin on St. John's Evangelical Lutheran property. The deck will be used by church members, boy and girl scouts and other church organizations.
