Nutter, City and agency officials announced preliminary information about public transportation options during the World Meeting of Families convening, Sept. 22 to 25, 2015, and the weekend of the Papal Visit, Sept. 26 to 27, 2015.

"At this point, we are about three months away from hosting the largest event in this City's history," said Mayor Nutter.

<![CDATA[A call for information re: Boyertown's old high school building]]> At the beginning of the 2014-2015 academic year, Boyertown High School telecommunications teacher Bill Cherkasky and a group of students from his class began a video project about the Boyertown Area Senior High School's Old Building.

Produced jointly by Cherkasky and BASH senior Zane Rutter, the video is a documentary capturing the current architecture of the Old Building and its history.

"Did I recently appear as AquaWoman in Kutztown Community Pool in this neon wetsuit?," she asked. The 65 costumed children giggled when she said "yes" to both.

A "Superhero Training Camp" kicked off summer reading at Kutztown Community Library's summer reading program, "Every Hero Has a Story," on Thursday, June 11.

The program will feature five local young women competing for the title of Miss Kutztown Bicentennial and twelve young girls competing for the title of Little Miss Kutztown Bicentennial.

The three young females were approached by a small black min-van or sport utility vehicle on the 600 block of Evans Street in Wyomissing, police said. The girls reported that the two men in the car asked them to get into the vehicle.

<![CDATA[Thousands of residents lose power after Sunday thunderstorm]]> Severe thunderstorms in the area Sunday night left 5,800 Met-Ed customers without power.

According to Met-Ed spokesman Scott Sturgeoner, most of the Berks County residents impacted had their power restored by mid-day Monday. Only about 50 customers, mostly in the City of Reading, were waiting for service.

<![CDATA[Perry Elementary Center students clean up Shoemakersville]]> The third grade students of Perry Elementary, spent an afternoon cleaning up Shoemakersville. Sixty-five students and their teachers, walked around the town picking up a multitude of items. Students found things such as bottles, cans, socks, shirts, cigarette butts, candy wrappers, aluminum foil, newspaper and many other items.

During the Opening Ceremony, Sherry Sperring, co-creator of the event and a cancer survivor, asked for a show of hands of other survivors in the crowd.

True to Children's Librarian, Kelly Jacoby's hope that the event would be well attended due to the "good response" that she described from the community on the topic, more than 25 attendees filled the seating area at SVCL.

Robert is retired from Carpenter Technology, Reading, and is the son of Charles and Verna (Burkey) Werley.

Joanna is retired from Globe Underwear, Shoemakersville, and is the daughter of Earl and Ardell (Shappell) Hepner.

<![CDATA[Girl Scout Troop 144 helps beautify gardens in Hamburg]]> On Saturday, June 6, members of Girl Scout Troop 114 joined forces with the Community Wildlife Habititat Committee to beautify the gardens along the Park Riverwalk at the community park and the Bicentennial Memorial Walkway on Port Clinton Avenue. The participants were several girls from the troop as well as their leader, Denise Bubbenmoyer, and some mothers.
