<![CDATA[Fleetwood School Board approves refinancing; Interest rates on new bonds lower]]> Fleetwood School Board unanimously approved a resolution for bond issue refinancing Nov. 18, in the hopes of bringing savings to the district.

The discussion focused on coming to a decision about a resolution for refinancing the district's 2009 bond issue of $13.5 million.

In September and October, the board was presented with the possibility and chose to hold off, pending research into savings projections.

<![CDATA[PennDOT driver license, photo centers closed for Thanksgiving holiday]]> The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation today announced that all driver license and photo centers, including its full-service center in Harrisburg, will be closed Thursday, Nov. 27 and Friday, Nov. 28, for the Thanksgiving holiday.

<![CDATA[Colebrookdale Railroad gets $20,000 grant]]> The Colebrookdale Railroad was the biggest beneficiary of this year's round of grants from the Boyertown Area Charitable Program.

Part of the Berks County Community Foundation, the charitable program distributed $44,250 it was announced Friday, Nov. 14, and $20,000 of it went to the railroad for operations.

<![CDATA[Truck driver charged in fatal Route 222 Maidencreek Township, Berks County crash; Police Chief: 'He told us he dozed off at the wheel']]> Two were declared deceased at the scene of an early morning crash on Route 222 in Maidencreek Township, and nine were sent to the hospital for injuries.

Tractor trailer driver Steven Bernier, 50, Reading, was driving a tractor trailer box truck for Cougle's Recycling, Inc. in Hamburg.

"He told us he dozed off at the wheel," said Northern Berks Regional Police Chief Scott Eaken.

<![CDATA[Additional Berks County Townships, Communities Quarantined Because of Spotted Lanternfly]]> More Berks County townships and communities are quarantined in the fight to stop the spread of the Spotted Lanternfly, an invasive insect new to the United States that was found in the area earlier this fall.

The additional quarantine covers Hereford, Rockland and Washington townships and the boroughs of Bally and Bechtelsville.

<![CDATA[Twin Valley U-11 soccer club team places second in DELCO League Division 4]]> The Twin Valley Under-11 Soccer Club's Vipers team finished in second place in the DELCO League Division 4 with a record of eight victories, two losses and one tie for 25 points. The squad was coached by Mark Moyer and Scott Gardner.

Twin Valley finished behind only first-place FC Brandywine's Elite 11's, who compiled an 8-1-2 record for 26 points.
