"We've planted an acre of sunflowers for the last six years," said Rick Frey, owner of Please Wash Me Carwash, 1 Yingst Drive. "We first started doing it because once the corn grows in the field, the carwash becomes invisible, so we tried to draw some attention to the carwash with sunflowers.

<![CDATA[Cat Angel Network's Pet of the Week: Angus and Twist, male best friends]]> Angus, a black and white male, and Twist, a brown tabby and white male, are best friends in their foster home. Both are under one year old. They are a bonded pair who must be adopted together.

Their foster Mom likes to refer to them as the Odd Couple. They don't look alike, and they're not exactly the same age.

There will be two signings: one at noon and one at 1 p.m.

The presentations will include live butterfly species, which will be passed around in identification jars.

<![CDATA[Latin no longer a language elective at Hamburg, Tilden principal moved to middle school]]>

Hamburg Area school directors acknowledged at their meeting on July 28 that the language elective Latin is history in regards to the district's curriculum for the 2014-15 school year.

Although almost 90 students in the high school had signed up for the language, the district does not have a Latin teacher on staff.

<![CDATA[Kutztown Dolphins swim to Arctic Division championship]]> The Kutztown Dolphins swim team defeated the teams from Topton and Robesonia to finish the regular season undefeated in the Arctic Division of the Berks County Swimming Association. This is the Dolphins' first winning season since 2007.

The Dolphins defeated the Topton Torpedoes, 249 to 220, on July 14, to bring their record to 4-0 in league competition.

The Hamburg Borough Police report that a reportable traffic accident occurred on Tuesday, July 15, at approx. 3:48 p.m. on South 4th Street between State Street and Pine Street in Hamburg. Patricia A. Foose, 69, from the Hamburg area, was traveling south on 4th Street, when she saw a person run into the street.

<![CDATA[State Police search for Berks County Prison inmate who did not return from work release]]> Pennsylvania State Police are searching for Randy Allen Robertson, 24, of Reading, who escaped from Berks County Prison in Bern Twp. after he failed to return to the prison from work release at the required time on July 31 at 6:30 p.m.

Robertson is 6'2" and 175 pounds. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Pennsylvania State Police Reading at 610-378-4011.
