Two Guys Plumbing, a local team from Kutztown, came out on top to win the championship in the team's second year of existence.

"Last year we got beat up pretty good in this league," said head coach Heath Fegely.

<![CDATA[Hamburg Jr. Legion team finishes second in state regional]]> The Hamburg Reds Jr. Legion baseball team of 2014 had a very successful season. Compiling a regular season record of 16-3, while competing in the Berks County Area Jr. Legion League.

Season highlights included wins over the Boyertown Bear-Cubs and West Lawn Owls, and qualifying for the Berks League playoffs.

Shillington came out on top with a time score of 380 points, six ahead of second place Green Valley. Amity finished in fourth place, while Antietam was seventh, Maple Springs 11th, Ken Grill 14th and Crestwood 15th.

<![CDATA[Boyertown senior Tim Lawlor plays on U.S. Select soccer team]]>

Tim Lawlor, a Gilbertsville resident and soon to be Boyertown High senior has been playing soccer since he was six years old. He played intramurals for a few years, before turning his attention to travel teams. Tim recently played with a U.S. select travel soccer team which travelled to Italy earlier in July to play in a tournament.

<![CDATA[Kutztown Dolphins swim to Arctic Division championship]]> The Kutztown Dolphins swim team defeated the teams from Topton and Robesonia to finish the regular season undefeated in the Arctic Division of the Berks County Swimming Association. This is the Dolphins' first winning season since 2007.

The Dolphins defeated the Topton Torpedoes, 249 to 220, on July 14, to bring their record to 4-0 in league competition.

<![CDATA[Boyertown Grizzlies qualify for state Jr. Legion baseball tournament]]> With a 5-0 victory over Hamburg at Radnor High School on July 30, the Boyertown Grizzlies Jr. Legion baseball team won the Wayne Regional Tournament and qualified for the double-elimination state tournament.

The Grizzlies did it the hard way. After losing to North Parkland in the opening round, the Grizzlies fought back through the losers bracket, winning the next five games to win the tournament.

<![CDATA[Twin Valley swimmers break records]]> The Twin Valley girls U14 swim relay broke the Brandywine Swim League Medley relay record on July 19 and they broke the Freestyle relay record on July 26, both records were from 1994. The girls also broke the Twin Valley swim team relay record in both the Freestyle relay(1998) by 8 seconds and the Medley relay (2007) by 17 seconds.

<![CDATA[Boyertown Bear Paws eliminated from state regional tournament]]> The Boyertown Bear-Paws completed a successful season last week when they were eliminated from the state regional tournament. The Bear-Paws were 3-2 in the tournament and finished the season with an overall record of 30-6.

The Bear Paws won the first game of the tournament on July 22, 6-0 over Lehigh.

The Strikers relied on team effort and talented balance of strong defense, incredible pitching and big bats to beat the Vienna Stars (VA), Xtreme Fastpitch (PA), NJ Pride (NJ), Orange Crush (DE), VA Crushers (VA), Ashburn Shooting Stars (VA) and the Banshees (PA) - who they also played in the championship game and won by a score of 3-0.
