"Many of these small farms (average around 50 acres) have moved from raising steers and pigs to small dairies and from tobacco as a cash crop to produce as the cash crop over the past 15 to 20 years," said Zimmerman.

<![CDATA[Weaver's Orchard in Morgantown wins first in Mid-Atlantic Cider Contest]]> Weaver's Orchard, a fourth generation family farm in Morgantown, won first place in the ninth annual Mid-Atlantic Cider Contest held at the Mid-Atlantic Fruit and Vegetable Convention on Jan. 29 in Hershey.

Competing in a blind taste test against fifteen entries from the mid-Atlantic states, Weaver's fresh-pressed apple cider placed first based on ten characteristics that included apple flavor, balance of sweetness and tartness, and attractive color and appearance.
