On a brisk October morning, Joan Berg of Berg’s Day Care, Lyons, surprised her kids with a trip to Grim’s for apple and pumpkin picking.

The kidsenjoyed the activities including a hay bale maze, petting zoo, corn boxand the walk to choose their very own pumpkin. Grammy (as her day carekids call her) told each child they could choose ANY pumpkin they wantedas long as they could carry it to the wagon themselves. It was achallenge, but each child walked around until they found the perfectpumpkin! One needed a pumpkin with bumps on it so it could be imaginaryteeth on their pumpkin. When one of the kids found a pumpkin withseveral colors, she knew she found her special decorated pumpkin. Mrs.Berg helped the under 2 year-olds to go into the pumpkin field and choosetheir own special pumpkins!

They later entered the apple orchard and each child filled a handled bagwith their apple selections. They were told to choose two special applesto take home with them to their houses and the rest of the bag will beused in the day care for them to make special apple recipes and enjoywith their lunches and for snacks. They kids are looking forward to somehomemade apple sauce and dipping their apples in sweet toppings.

The group ate lunch at Grim’s and headed back for nap time. Grammy got them all settled down for a nap and one by one theyfell asleep as the next one was tucked in. Autumn fun has just begun atBerg’s Day care.
