March 8 was the second Sunday of Lent. The alter flowers were in memory of John Lesniak, Jr. by the family. The second set of flowers were in memory of Sallie Mase’s birthday by Barbara Houser. Salem-Berne United Methodist Church

Morning Worship will be held on March 15 at 10:45. The Liturgist is Dennis Sonday and the greeters are Jim and Jill Hulse. The Children’s Message will be given by Judy Geschwindt and the acolyte is Madison Francis.

Lenten services on March 11 will be at Salem-Berne at 7 p.m. Bethany United Methodist, Hamburg, Salem United Methodist and St. Luke’s, Shoemakersville will be participating churches. Everyone is welcome.

St Paul’s Lutheran Church “Smoke Church”

On Wednesday evenings March 4 through April 1, Lenten Soup & Sandwich Suppers will be offered for our Shared Ministry at New Jerusalem Zion UCC at 6 p.m. followed each evening by a five-week Bible study of the book of Isaiah. A free-will offering will be taken to defray the cost of the meals. (Or if anyone would like to help provide food for one of the meals, please let Pastor Elna know).

Please join us on Saturday, March 21 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for our third Annual Soup & Home Baked Bread Sale. We will have a variety of soups available for take home and also lunch there, along with freshly baked bread by the loaf. Be sure to visit us early, last year we sold out by noon! All proceeds go toward our vacation bible school.

Evangelical Lutheran Friedens Church

Sheryl Manrodt, Mike McCann, Deb Orban, Russ Leinbach, Roy and Jane Bubbenmoyer, and Doyle and Faye Showers were worship assistants. The Sanctuary Candle for March is presented in honor of Wesley Wormser’s Boy Scout achievement. The flowers were presented in honor of Pastor Rob’s big 4 – 0 birthday, by his parents, Bob and Adele Argot. The bulletin covers were presented in memory of her mother by Shirley Letcher and the contents were presented in honor of Chris Leinbach’s 13th birthday by his parents, Russ and Steph Leinbach. Candy making begins March 23 on Mondays and Tuesdays from March 23 through March 31 with clean up day being on April 1. Orders can be placed for coconut cream, butter cream and peanut butter eggs.

First Holy Communion Classes will begin on March 22 during the Sunday School hour and continue through April 9. Classes are open to anyone from fifth grade thorough adulthood.

Men’s Bible Study and Breakfast will be held on March 14 from 8 to 10 a.m.

A Spaghetti Luncheon will be held on March 15 from 12 to 2 p.m.

Orders for Easter lilies are being taken.

The Community Lenten Service will be held at Little Tulpehocken Church with Rev. Bill Miller preaching the sermon.

St. Michael’s Church

Join us for worship on March 15 at 10:15 a.m. Sunday School for all ages begins at 9 a.m.

Midweek Lenten gatherings with a covered dish are held every Wednesday at 6 p.m. Following supper there will be a Nooma DVD shown and discussion. Maudy Thursday will be on April 9 at 7 p.m. and Good Friday April 10 at 7 p.m.

Easter services will be April 12 at 6:30 a.m. and 10:15 a.m.

Salem (Belleman’s) Church

On Sunday, March 8, Salem Belleman’s Church, 3540 Belleman’s Church Road, Mohrsville, observed the Second Sunday in Lent with the two regular worship services at 7:45 and 10:15 a.m. Michele Dietrich played the piano for the early service while Linda Hartman, the Director of Music Ministry, played the organ for the late service. The scripture readings were Genesis 17:1-7, 15-16 and Romans 4:13-25 which were read by Lester Gambler at the early service and Maura Wesner at the late service. The Gospel reading was from Mark 8:31-38.

Make your plans now to attend our next Wednesday evening Lenten service on March 11 at 7 p.m. The midweek service will be preceded by a homemade soup and bread supper which begins at 6 p.m. There will be a service every Wednesday during Lent. All are invited to attend!

Zion’s Lutheran Church

The mid-week Lenten Series: Returning Home continues this evening at 7 p.m. The theme is The Elder Son: “The Cost Says It All.” The theme for the March 18 Lenten Service is: The Father: “Not Your Typical Parent.”

Holy Communion will be celebrated at the 8 a.m. Contemporary Service as well as the 10:30 a.m. Service on Sunday, March 15. The sermon theme is “The Ten Commandments.”
