Brian Rohn, formerly the assistant principal of Boyertown’s Junior High West, is now serving as the principal of New Hanover Upper Frederick Elementary School. A Q-and-A with Rohn follows.

Are you originally from the area?

I grew up in Berwyn and Paoli, Pa. I graduated from Conestoga High School in 1993, graduated from Penn State in 1997, Earned a Master’s degree in multicultural education from Eastern University and my Principal’s Certificate from Penn State. I have been married for 13 years and have three daughters ages 8, 6 and 2.

How long did you serve at the junior high?

O Assistant Principal (2007-2014):

O 9th Grade Mathematics Teacher (1999-2007): Honors Algebra II, Algebra II, Algebra I, Algebra IB, Integrated Algebra I, Integrated Math

O Mathematics Department Leader (1999-2007):

O Continuing Education Program Director for the Boyertown School District (2001-2004):

O 7th and 8th Grade Mathematics Teacher (1998-1999): Math 7, Pre-Algebra, Math 8, Algebra I

Is there a special moment or a comment about that experience that you’d like to share with the community?

I started a Dance Marathon 10 years ago where students dance for 9 hours to raise money for charity. When the Boyertown Relay For Life started 7 years ago, we decided to give the money to them. Over the past 7 years, we have raised over $140,000. I continue to be amazed at that accomplishment. It shows how close of a community we have here in Boyertown.

How do you feel about transitioning to NHUF?

I feel positive about the transition. Serving as the Substitute Principal for 6 months last year helped me gain an understanding of the culture of the building and community. I do not feel as though I am starting from scratch, instead I am continuing what I learned last year. Mrs. Mason and I have worked closely together to ensure a great start to the school year for our students.

What will your main goal be? / What do you hope to accomplish?

My overarching goal is to prepare our students to be successful when they leave us. To do that, I will be analyzing our data to determine our strengths and areas where we can improve. This will enable us to focus our attention in the right place and once we have that focus, we can develop a systematic plan to make those improvements.

What are you looking forward to the most?

I am looking forward to working with the teachers. What I learned from being here last year is that the teachers want to continually improve. I was very impressed with their desire to work together to do what is best for the students. I am thrilled to be working with such a dedicated staff!
