Fleetwood >> Students and parents walked and biked to their first day of school at Willow Creek Elementary on Aug. 25.

“It’s exciting. There’s lot of energy. Everyone is happy to be back. Summer went by really, really fast. It’s amazing how quickly time goes. We’re looking forward to a great 2014-15 school year,” said Willow Creek Elementary Principal Lori M. Koehler.

Her favorite part of first day of school is to see the children’s excitement to come to school and see the teachers. “Everybody is just a little bit nervous, everyone’s got a little bit of the jitters, but once they start the day, it all flows and everyone gets right back into the routine.”

Jacob Mest, 9, grade 4, showed his school pride wearing a Tiger shirt for the first day, “I think it’s going to be pretty good to see all my friends back again.”

Nicholas Noll, 7, 2nd grade, was ready to meet his teacher. “I like going to recess.”

His grandfather Roy Adams said Nicholas was reading all summer long to be ready for the new school year.

Lily Wendt, 7, 2nd grade, and Brady Wendt, 5, kindergarten, walked and biked to Willow Creek Elementary. Brady’s bike helmet sported spikes. They did not have much to say about their first day but agreed that they were indeed excited.

Colton DeTurk, 8, 3rd grade, walked with his cousin Tessa Buck, 4, and her great-grandmother and Colton’s grandma Martha DeTurk to Willow Creek Elementary.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen. I’m just kinda excited to go to school,” said Colton. “I’m looking forward to seeing my friends.”
