Hamburg school board approves 4 year technology lease, Upper Bern Elm. put up for auction Sept. 24

Hamburg Area plans to have a grand opening for its new elementary school in Shoemakersville on Oct. 23, Superintendent Steven Keifer told school directors on Aug. 25.

The late date for the public to check out the new Perry Elementary Center Dedicated to Esther H. Ludwig is due to construction delays.

The delay caused the school to open one week late, with some sections not being ready until October.

The classrooms have been completed, but an additional two weeks are needed to complete the library and the auditorium and gymnasium will not be ready until October, Keifer said.

In other news, school directors approved a four-year technology lease with an annual payment of $46,702.

The lease includes the district’s one-to-one laptop program, which is on a four to five year rotation, hardware and equipment, according to business manager Michele Zimmerman.

In other news, Keifer announced that the former Upper Bern Elementary School with be put up for auction on Sept. 24.

Efforts to sell the property have been fruitless.

In other news, Keifer told school directors that the district has surpassed $100,000 in sales on eBay.

The district puts items that it will no longer use on the online auction site.

Keifer thanked district employee Connie Adam, who is in charge of placing items on the site.

School directors met in executive session prior to the meeting to discuss contractual matters. No details were available.

The next meeting of school directors is Monday, Sept. 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the James A. Gilmartin Community Room.
