For the members of the Woman’s Club of Strausstown, the October meeting usually means getting out and about on a kind of mystery tour. They’ve visited a winery, a railroad museum, a historic church, and other area places of interest. This year’s jaunt saw the ladies traveling just over the border into Lebanon County to the Light Victorian Farmhouse, where they enjoyed a delicious buffet dinner seated in the dining room and parlor of the beautifully restored house. From the plush red floral rug in the dining room to the cozy library and the elegant front entrance and graceful stairway-they marveled at all the delightful touches of the Victorian home.

Although they do not live in the house, the owners have refurbished the property, bringing it back to the kind of house that seems part of a Christmas dream. And Christmas there is! The entire downstairs is decorated for Yule with several trees in different motifs and charming tableaux on almost every surface. After dinner the members of the club were invited to tour the house, and they found the upstairs bedrooms just as sumptuous as the first-floor rooms. They opened doors and discovered surprisingly roomy closets and even modern bathrooms. Several women went up the front staircase and descended the servants’ staircase at the back in order to see the cozy kitchen with olden-day charm but up-to-date appointments.

The ladies and their guests were amazed to find this gem in the middle of nowhere. Well, maybe not nowhere, but certainly in the midst of open farm acres. In fact, the farmhouse is part of a working farm property. The evening was topped off by a full moon illuminating the landscape on the return trip to Strausstown.

Although a regular business meeting was not held, members were reminded to send in their surveys concerning the future of the club, as this will be an important topic at the next regular meeting to be held at the Strausstown Community Center on Wednesday, Nov. 13, at 7 p.m. “Christmas Memories” is the program for the evening, and members are asked to bring along a treasured Christmas item and share their stories.
