Hamburg Rotarian Fred Sheeler gave a presentation at the Oct. 23 Rotary meeting on the life of Jacob Balthaser. Jacob was most well known in Hamburg as the owner of Balthaser’s Store at Third and State Sts. However he was also quite active politically having served on Hamburg Borough Council from the 1920s to the late 1950s, 12 years as Burgess (the former term for mayor), and serving three terms 1937-1943 in the PA State House representing the then 3rd district. Mr. Balthaser lived from 1878 to 1958.
