The Hamburg Leo Club and Miss McCarthy went to the Ronald McDonald House and Chocolate World on Oct. 19. The Ronald McDonald House is a place across from Hershey Medical Center for the children’s families’ to stay. It is tailored to be a home-away-from-home to keep the families together. Their houses are built on the simple idea that nothing should matter when a family is focused on the health of their children and not where they can afford to stay, where they will get their next meal or where they can put their head at night to rest. At every house, the families can enjoy home-cooked meals, private bedrooms, and playrooms for the children. They believe that when a child is in the hospital, the love and support of family is as powerful as the strongest medicine prescribed.
On the field trip, the Leo Club went to the Ronald McDonald House to drop of the 275 pounds soda tabs they collected. Soda tabs are very important for the charity. They recycle the tabs and use the money to buy supplies for the House and use the money for other stuff.
The students also got to get a tour of the building. They have a Treasure Chest for when the kids come out of the hospital, they get to pick a toy and the newborns can get blankets. Other kids also donate their Christmas toys to the Ronald McDonald House.
After the tour students went to Chocolate World and went on the Hershey’s Tour and then they had an hour to walk around and buy souvenirs or chocolate to eat. Overall, the field trip on Saturday was very fun and the members that went had a lot of fun.
