Two years ago the Frystown Lions decided it was time to have women in the club. Up to now, however, there had been none sponsored for membership. Now, through transfer from her previous club in Monroe County, Adele Argot has become the first female member of the club.

The Frystown Lions were chartered in March of 1961 and was at one time a thriving club. Like many clubs in recent years membership has fallen. Now in the last two years, however, three new members have joined the club and an associate member was added, thus more than doubling the club size.

Under renew leadership, with new members being active, the club is planning for the future in both service to the community and in fundraising efforts. Lion president Dennis Zerbe acknowledged that it was beyond time to change the way things were done in the past.

Zerbe said, “I think this is the best thing we could have done because it will help us for future growth.”

The other club members quickly agreed. Now there are already several prospective members, both male and female, being courted by the present membership.

For Adele Argot, being the first female member of a Lions club in not new. She was one of a group of three ladies taken into the Western Pocono Lions Club of Monroe County when they first received ladies in the club 10 years ago.

In regard to being the newest member, she said, “It’s exciting to be a pioneer as the first woman member. I hope to help the club grow. Hopefully some of my experience over my 10 years of Lionism, including as my husband’s ‘partner-in-service’ when he was district governor, in addition to my attending zone, district, state and international events will be of benefit to the club.”

Argot herself held various important positions at the club level and served in two cabinet positions for the district serving the Poconos. Argot has also been a Lioness for over 15 years.

The club is looking for both male and female members of the community who would enjoy being active in a local community service club. For those interested the contact is Lion Dennis Zerbe at 717-933-4801 or Lion Argot at 717-933-4028.
