NORTHERN BERKS MINISTERIUMThe Community Lenten Series will be held on Thursdays though March 19. The theme for the series is “Close Encounters of Grace that Free Us.” Gatherings will be held each Thursday in Lent at 11:30 a.m. at a different area church. Gatherings will include a service of prayer, reflection, and conclude with a soup and bread lunch. A freewill offering will be taken in support of the Ministerium’s emergency response outreach ministry. All are welcome.

St. Michael’s ChurchA Free spaghetti dinner is Saturday, March 7, 5-7 p.m. Be sure to invite everyone who is in need of a meal. If you come and want to make a donation you can give it to more free meals or the Northern Berks Food Pantry.

Sunday March 8, we celebrate the Second Sunday in Lent at 10:15 a.m. Children will sing a song before the children’s sermon. Each Sunday in Lent is a mini-Easter. Sundays are not counted in the “40” days of Lent. Remember to turn your clocks ahead one hour Saturday night!

Wednesday, March 11, a covered dish will begin at 6 p.m. Invite your neighbors or anyone who may be hungry! At 6:45 p.m. we study “Why Did Jesus Have To Die,” a Bible Study On the Meaning of Christ’s Sacrifice tonight we will study “See What Love, The Cross as Demonstration.” The Sr. Choir will rehearse at 7:30 p.m.

We have two support groups that started Tuesday, March 3 at 7 p.m. Surrendering the Secret is an abortion recovery class that will meet for 8-weeks. This Bible study is designed for women who are struggling with the pain associated with a past abortion experience. There is a cost for materials for the class. Surrendering the Secret can still be joined this Tuesday, March 10. Grief Share is also being offered Tuesdays at 7 p.m., and there is a cost for class materials. Grief Share is a grief recovery support group for anyone who has recently lost a loved one. Grief Share is a friendly, caring group of people who will walk alongside you through one of life’s most difficult experiences. This class can be joined at any point during its 13 week course. Don’t go through the challenge of loss alone. These support groups are led by people who understand what you are going through and want to help. You’ll gain access to valuable resources to help you deal with the pain and look forward to tomorrow.

Join Celebrate Recovery that meets on Monday Evenings at 7 p.m. Celebrate Recovery is a 12-step Recovery program where people gain freedom, healing, and accountability for life’s hurts, habits, and hang-ups. By applying the 8 Recovery Principles within the 12-step program, we open ourselves up to God’s grace so that we can break free. We also open the door to recovery by sharing our experiences and hopes with one another. Celebrate Recovery is open to men and women ages 18+. It’s not just for people struggling with substance abuse. Zion’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Perry Township

Wednesday Lenten Worship continues today with worship at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. in the Gold Room Lenten Chapel. The theme is The Parable of the Hidden Treasure and the Price Pearl. Tomorrow, Thursday, March 5, Zion’s Lutheran hosts the Northern Berks Ministerium Lenten service at 11:30 a.m. with the theme Grace Freely Given and Costly Lived. Soup follows the service in the Fellowship Hall. This Sunday, March 8, is the Third Sunday in Lent with worship at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Sunday School for all ages meets at 9:15 a.m. First Communion classes BEGIN THIS SUNDAY after the 10:30 a.m. worship service and run until 1:30 p.m. including lunch. First Communion classes will be held on March 15, 22,and 29. Personal Care items are being collected by Zion’s Women to benefit the people of Opportunity House in Reading. Salem Belleman’s ChurchOn Sunday, March 1, Salem Belleman’s Church, 3540 Belleman’s Church Road, Mohrsville, observed the Second Sunday of Lent at the regular Worship times of 7:45 and 10:15 a.m. The musician for the early service was Carol Kissinger while Linda Hartman, The Director of Music Ministry, played for the second service. The scripture readings for the services were Genesis 17:1-7, 15-16 and Romans 4:13-22 which were read by Linda Henne at the early service and by Marilyn Yoder at the late service. Also, the Gospel reading was from Mark 8:31-38. During the 10:15 a.m. service, Pastor Potteiger baptized Cooper Jackson Henne, son of Lee and April Henne.

Belleman’s will be having Wednesday evening Lenten services continuing March 4 at 7 p.m. The mid-week services are preceded by a homemade soup and bread supper which begins at 6 p.m. There will be a service and supper every Wednesday during Lent. All are invited to attend!

On Sunday, March 15, Belleman’s will be having a Kauffman’s Chicken Bar-B-Q at the church’s Fellowship Hall from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The dinner includes 1/2 chicken, baked potato, apple sauce, roll & butter and beverage all for one cost. Salem United Methodist Church Shoemakersville

Welcome to the corner of Sixth and Main streets in Shoemakersville for our 9 a.m. worship service. Because of the snow, we are using scriptures and messages we missed. Sonja Rollman will read Colossians 3:1-17, and will also have the Children’s Message. The pastor’s scripture is 2 Chronicles 15:1-9, and his message is “A Time of Growth.” The Girl Scouts will be joining us for worship as this Girl Scout Sunday.

Administrative Council will meet on Monday, March 9 at 6:30 p.m. in Fellowship Hall.

The Mid-week Lenten Service is at Bethany UMC this week, beginning with a bread and soup meal at 6 p.m. The service begins at 7 p.m. Rev. Rick Hostetter will speak, and his theme is Barrabas. On March 18, we will meet at St. Luke’s in Shoemakersville, and Rev. Dan Herner will speak.

Lenten Project – Donations of food particularly tuna, cereal, canned fruit, peanut butter, and spaghetti sauce will be given to the Food Pantries in Hamburg and Leesport as part of Kady Alvarado’s senior class project. Donations can be accepted until March 29 in the marked containers outside the auditorium and Primary Sunday School Room.

Easter Egg Hunt Donations – The youth group is requesting donations of wrapped candy by Sunday, March 15. Donations can be given to Lydia Beck or placed in the Easter Candy donation box. Mark your calendar: Easter Egg Hunt will be Saturday, March 28 at 10 a.m.

St. John’s Night at the Reading Royals: Sunday, March 15, 5:05 p.m. Game Time. There is a cost. Free parking and $1 hotdogs, popcorn, soda, and nachos. Everyone is invited to this event. See Lydia Beck for more information and to reserve tickets. Deadline for payment is March 8.

Easter Egg Hunt: Saturday, March 28 at 10 a.m. The youth group is sponsoring an Easter Egg Hunt for toddlers through 5th graders. There will be prizes for each of the age groups. Come and meet the Easter Bunny! The event is held rain or shine.

The Property Committee has replaced chairs in the Junior Room and also the Kinder Klass Room. The old chairs are for sale. There is also a piano for sale. If interested, see Doug Adams for details.
