Fourth grade students, at Perry Elementary Center, commemorated the 150th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s assassination by going on a virtual field trip to Ford’s Theatre on March 26.

Students sat in awe as they watched several Washington D.C. tour guides take them through Ford’s Theatre and explain the details that led up to the assassination of President Lincoln. Through the use of the educational website, Discovery Education, students and teachers were able to watch the tour as it was streamed live over the internet and onto the projection screen in the auditorium.

This virtual field trip was a great way to conclude the English Language Arts unit that the students were studying which included a story about Abraham Lincoln titled “Abe’s Honest Words.” Students had many questions about Abraham Lincoln and his assassination and some students even submitted their questions to the live discussion that took place during the hour presentation. In the end, students were able to learn more about President Lincoln and gain a better respect for why he was known as “Honest Abe.”
