Melissa Destefano, a senior at Twin Valley High School, has been named October’s Intern of the Month. Destefano started to work for French Creek Boutique in March leading up to her current internship. Her interest in the boutique sparked from wanting an experience in small businesses and merchandising. Destefano has a positive and energetic demeanor and is an asset to the boutique.
“This has been a great opportunity for me to work in merchandising with Melynda Wagner [owner] and to learn from her,” said Destefano.
As an intern at French Creek Boutique, Destefano is grateful to have the opportunity and has grown to be a multi-talented and creative worker. More often than not, when Destefano goes to her internship, she is doing something new every day. A typical day could be anywhere from painting furniture to promoting the business through social networking. Destefano has obtained a working knowledge of small business and merchandising tasks, making her versatile and well-rounded.
Destefano recommends this internship to anyone who would like to go into a field with merchandising. With the knowledge and experience she has received, she feels more confident in her senior year about what she plans to do after high school. Destefano plans to continue working for the boutique after her internship has ended.
“French Creek Boutique is an upscale women’s consignment shop with everything from home decor, handbags and clothing,” said Destefano. “The boutique has something for everyone.”
