On Monday, Dec. 7, 4th graders at Twin Valley Elementary Center were treated to an assembly featuring the Philadelphia Eagles Mascot, Swoop, and several Philadelphia Eagles Cheerleaders to kick of the NFL PLAY 60 Program, a month-long activity challenge.

All 4th grade students at TVEC received a physical activity log book that they will be required to track their minutes of physical activity over a four-week period. The students will get adult signatures to verify their activity performed. Students will return their books and see how they ranked up against other schools. The schools with the most minutes accumulated will send students to a field day with the Philadelphia Eagles in the spring.

“We are excited to have our 4th graders participate in the NFL PLAY 60 program,” said Craig Sell, TVEC principal. “At TVEC, we are dedicated to promoting active, healthy lifestyles, and promoting good eating and exercise habits that will hopefully last a lifetime.”

“This spring, we will be implementing an Elementary Flag Football Curriculum that NFL PLAY 60 has provided for us,” said Heather McHugh, TVEC’s Physical Education teacher. “They sent us everything we need to make this program successful, including new flag belts, footballs, and lesson plans. We are excited to promote health and fitness to our students in a fun and meaningful environment,” said McHugh.

The NFL PLAY 60 mission is to make the next generation of youth the most active and healthy. In October 2007, the NFL launched NFL PLAY 60, a national youth health and fitness campaign focused on increasing the wellness of young fans by encouraging them to be active for at least 60 minutes a day.

Designed to tackle childhood obesity, NFL PLAY 60 brings together the NFL’s long-standing commitment to health and fitness with an impressive roster of partner organizations. In addition to national outreach and online programs, NFL PLAY 60 is implemented at the grassroots level through NFL’s in-school, after-school and team-based programs. The NFL PLAY 60 initiative is prominent during the NFL’s key calendar events, including Super Bowl, Pro Bowl, Draft, Kickoff and Thanksgiving and is supported by many NFL players and coaches year round. To date, the NFL has dedicated over $200 million to youth health and wellness through NFL PLAY 60.
