    Ashley Hoffman, Twin Valley High School senior field hockey player, signed her letter intent Sept. 2 in the HS main gym. Ashley is an early graduate. She signed her letter to the University of North Carolina to play field hockey.

    The Blacktop Jr. Basketball League held its championship game at Cedar Beach Park in Allentown on Aug. 13. Two Guys Plumbing, a local team from Kutztown, came out on top to win the championship in the team’s second year of existence.

    Hamburg Jr. Legion team finishes second in state regional

    The Hamburg Reds Jr. Legion baseball team of 2014 had a very successful season. Compiling a regular season record of 16-3, while competing in the Berks County Area Jr. Legion League.

    Shillington swimmers win Berks County Swimming Association’s Silver Meet

    The Berks County Swimming Association held its annual Silver Championships on July 27. Shillington came out on top with a time score of 380 points, six ahead of second place Green Valley. Amity finished in fourth place, while Antietam was seventh, Maple Springs 11th, Ken Grill 14th and Crestwood 15th. Below are the top area swimmers from the meet.

    Leesport takes third placed and Silver Swim Meet

    The Berks County Swim Association held its annual Silver Meet on July 27. Leesport finished in third place as a team with 368 team points. Bern Township finished in 16th place with 28 team points. Below are the top area finishers at the meet.

    Boyertown senior Tim Lawlor plays on U.S. Select soccer team

    Tim Lawlor, a Gilbertsville resident and soon to be Boyertown High senior has been playing soccer since he was six years old. He played intramurals for a few years, before turning his attention to travel teams. Tim recently played with a U.S. select travel soccer team which travelled to Italy earlier in July to play in a tournament.

    The Kutztown Dolphins swim team defeated the teams from Topton and Robesonia to finish the regular season undefeated in the Arctic Division of the Berks County Swimming Association. This is the Dolphins’ first winning season since 2007.

    Hodnett and Laubach win Thunder on the Hill

    The NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series continued its’ 25th anniversary season on July 29 with the popular 410 Sprints and the Race of Champions Modifieds in a spectacular double-header. Greg Hodnett earned a $5,000 payday for winning the 35 lap 410 Sprint feature event, his fourth win in a row at Grandview Speedway.
