The Kutztown University men’s and women’s rugby will play for national championships in the coming weeks. Both teams have advanced to the final four in their respective divisions.
Ranked #4 in the nation, Kutztown’s men’s rugby will face Bowling Green on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 1 p.m. in the American Collegiate Rugby Championship Division I semi-final round. The game will be played in Kutztown at the North Campus rugby pitch, 18 Luckenbill Ave, Kutztown, Pa. If KU win’s they will advance to the championship round on Dec. 7 and face either Penn State or Middlebury (VT). The game will be played in Greenville, SC.
Kutztown beat West Virginia University 83-17 in the quarterfinals last weekend. The Golden Bears had an undefeated regular season scoring wins over Albany, Davenport, Penn State, Wheeling Jesuit, Mary Washington and James Madison.
The Middle Atlantic Rugby Conference champion Kutztown women’s rugby has advanced to the semi-final round of the American Collegiate Rugby Association Division II final four. They will face Winona State University (MN) on Dec 7 in Auburndale, Fl.
The ladies had a perfect season as well with wins over Lafayette, Lock Haven, East Stroudsburg and Shippensburg. The Golden Bears beat Stonehill College (MA) 53-20 in the sweet sixteen and Bowdoin College (ME) 15-5 last weekend to secure their spot in the final four. A win over Winona will put them in the championship game on Dec. 8, also in Auburndale.
