The 2012-13 season was a very good one for Schuylkill Valley High School bowling. The Lady Panthers won the Division 2 title with an amazing 34-2 record, while the boys made the league playoffs by finishing second in the division.
The bad news for the Schuylkill Valley girls is that despite their record, they lost to Muhlenberg in the Berks County semifinals. They would like to make up for that this year, but it will be difficult. The Lady Panthers have several of the key players from last year’s team back again this year, but they only have four bowlers on the team. That will make it tough to compete.
The boys team will be back and expect another good season from them, with several of their top bowlers back again this year.
The boys are led by senior Tyler Dautrich who led the team with a 215 average last year, and was selected to the All-County team.
The boys have two other seniors, Edziu Skorpinski and Matt Keller who averaged over 200 last year. Both were named to the All-Division team.
Also back is senior Derek Hueske, who averaged 159 last year.
The Schuylkill Valley girls will be led by a trio of seniors, Kristen Keller, Jamie Wilson and Ashlin Long.
Keller led the team with a 201 average last year and was named to the All-County team.
Long and Wilson were each named to the All-Division team. Long averaged a 186 while Wilson averaged a 182.
Both teams have talented bowlers, but depth may be a problem. Head coach Dave Hause believes they can overcome that.
“The key to a successful season is having all of the bowlers give their best each game and match, display sportsmanship at every match, win the key games in our division, and encourage each other when things aren’t going our way,” said Hause.
Both teams open the season at home against Antietam on Dec. 10, then host Reading the following day.
