Boyertown

Boys’ Basketball

On Dec. 13, the Bears played host to PAC-10 rival Spring-Ford. The game was a close one, but it was Spring-Ford that came out on top, 72-68.

The Rams jumped out to a 25-13 lead after one quarter, but the Bears fought back, outscoring their hosts in the second quarter, 16-13, and in the third, 19-14 to close within four points. But the Rams were able to hold them off in the final period.

Tyler Bauman led the Boyertown offense with 22 points, including five three-point buckets. Ryan Corcoran netted 14 points while Kyle Dennin and Ben Longacre each had 10 points. Kevin McAteer chipped in with six points.

Girls’ Basketball

The Boyertown Area High School girls’ basketball team got the PAC-10 season underway last week with a win and a loss. The Lady Bears are 3-1 overall.

On Dec. 13, the Lady Bears traveled to Collegeville to take on Perkiomen Valley. Boyertown had little trouble winning the game, 56-33.

The Lady Bears jumped out to an 11-5 lead after one quarter, then expanded the advantage to 17 by halftime, 28-11. They put the game away in the third quarter, outscoring the Indians, 18-8.

Dee Terry was high scorer for the locals with 12 points in the game. Abby Kapp netted 10 points and Ali Bauman added seven. Sarafina Valenti, Marie Valenti and Maria Garofolo all had six points.

On Dec. 13, the Lady Bears took on a powerful squad from Spring-Ford in a PAC-10 battle. The Rams proved to be too much for the visiting Lady Bears and Spring-Ford won the game, 75-48.

Boyertown stayed with the Rams in the first quarter, but were outscored in the second quarter, 18-10, and in the third, 25-11, giving Spring-Ford a 61-35 lead heading into the final period.

Dee Terry paced the Boyertown offense with 10 points in the contest. Taylor Landis netted nine points while Ali Bauman, Maria Garofolo and Marie Valenti each had six points. Abby Kapp added five and Jordan Webb had four.

Wrestling

The Boyertown Area High School wrestling team opened the PAC-10 season on Dec. 18 with a 63-10 victory over Pottsgrove.

Earning pins for the Bears were: Jordan Wertz (195), 2:11; Brody O’Connell (285), 1:21; David Campbell (120), 1:02; Lucas Miller (126), 1:26; J.T. Cooley (132), 3:37; Eddie Kriczky (138), 1:49; and William Scholl (182), 3:34.

Winning by major decisions for Boyertown were: Dylan Wertz (145), 14-2; Gregg Harvey (160), 12-2; and Cody Richmond (170), 14-1.

Jordan Wood (220) won by a forfeit.

On Dec. 13 and 14, the Bears took part in the King of the Mountain Wrestling Tournament held at Lock Haven High School.

Jordan Wood led the way for Boyertown, taking first place in the 220 pound weight class. He decisioned Andrew Dunn of Bethlehem Catholic, 5-1 in the championship match.

Jordean Wertz (195) finished in third place after decisioning Jacob Robb of Kittaning, 4-2 in the third place bout.

Ed Kriczky (138), Jakob Campbell (106) and Lucas Miller (126) each finished in fourth place for the Bears, while Cody Richmond (170) and Dylan Wertz (145) were both fifth place finishers.

Boys’ Swimming

The Boyertown Area High School boys’ swimming team dropped its opening meet of the season to Methacton on Dec. 17, 107-76.

Steve Miller and Patrick Lance led the way for Boyertown, with two individual victories apiece. Miller was first in the 200 free (1:49.70), and the 100 free (49.62); while Lance finished first in the 50 free (23.20 seconds) and 100 fly (55.77 seconds).

Girls’ Swimming

The Boyertown Area High School girls’ swimming team opened the season on Dec. 17 with a 104-71 loss to Methacton.

Paige Slowik and Olivia Savino were Boyertown’s only individual winners. Slowik was first in the 100 back (1:06.54), while Savino was first in the 100 breast (1:11.31).

Also winning for Boyertown was the 400 free relay team of Cara Megill, Catherine Coates, Paige Wrigley and Laura Simpson in a time of 3:56.40.

Oley Valley

Boys’ Basketball

The Oley Valley High School boys’ basketball team remained unbeaten at 3-0 after a pair of victories last week.

On Dec. 13, the Lynx traveled to Conestoga Christian for a non-league battle. Despite a slow start, the Lynx were able to come back and defeat the Cougars in overtime, 59-54.

Conestoga Christian jumped out to a 15-9 lead after one quarter, but Oley cut the lead to one by halftime, 25-24. The Cougars were able to keep the lead until the fourth quarter when Oley caught up, tying the game after regulation, 50-50. But they scored nine straight points in the overtime period to pull out the victory.

Sebastian Williamson led the Oley Valley offense with 21 points in the contest. Hunter Renninger contributed with 15 while Ben Kerkeslager added 14. Lucas Bishop added four.

On Dec. 19, the Lynx played host to Kutztown in the first Berks League game for the Lynx. Oley had little trouble defeating the Cougars, 51-29.

The locals took control of the game early, outscoring the Cougars in the first quarter, 19-6. They increased the lead to 18 by halftime, and Kutztown was unable to recover from the deficit.

Hunter Renninger led the Oley Valley offense with 14 points in the game. Sabastian Williamson netted 11 while Joe Coopersmith had seven points and Ben Kerkeslager added six.

Girls’ Basketball

The Oley Valley High School girls’ basketball team had a light week, playing just one game.

On Dec. 19, the Lady Lynx traveled to Kutztown for a Berks League game and came home with a 71-42 victory. Oley is 1-0 in the league and 3-0 overall.

It was a slow start for Oley against Kutztown as the Cougars held a 12-9 lead after one quarter. But the Lady Lynx got it together in the second quarter, outscoring Kutztown, 29-13. They put the game away in the third quarter, outscoring their hosts, 16-4, to take a 54-29 lead.

Amanda Rizzuti led the Oley Valley offense with 21 points in the game. Brandi Vallely netted 19 while Victoria Moll scored 16 and Amanda Aulenbach added nine.

Boys’ Bowling

The Oley Valley High School boys’ bowling team split a pair of matches last week and are 4-8 in Berks League play.

On Dec. 16, the Lynx defeated Antietam, 2-1. Jarrett Korn led the way for Oley Valley with a three-game series of 575. Alec Eppler bowled a 524 and Jacob Hitt a 502.

On Dec. 19, the Lynx lost to Schuylkill Valley, 2-1. Hitt led the Lynx with a series of 581, while Eppler bowled a 520 series.

Girls’ Bowling

The Oley Valley High School girls’ bowling team split a pair of matches last week and are 8-4 in Berks League play.

On Dec. 16, the Lady Lynx blanked Antietam, 3-0. Brittany Gust paced the Oley bowlers with a 455 series. Sydney Majorwicz bowled a 446 series and Haley Youse a 426.

On Dec. 19, Oley was defeated by Schuylkill Valley, 2-1. Marissa Ranenzahn rolled a 534 series and Youse bowled a 477.
