Boyertown

Boys’ Basketball

The Boyertown Area High School boys’ basketball team split a pair of games last week and are now 5-3 in the PAC-10 and 7-9 overall.

The Bears began the week with a PAC-10 road game at Phoenixville. Despite a slow start, the Bears played well in the second half and won the game, 60-48.

Phoenixville held a 24-22 halftime lead, but Boyertown came back to outscored the Phantoms in the third quarter, 19-14, and the fourth, 19-10.

Ryan Corcoran had a big game offensively for the Bears, scoring 24 points. Tyler Bauman netted nine points, while Ben Longacre canned eight and Kevin McAteer added five.

On Jan. 18, the Bears traveled to Downingtown East for a non-league game. Downingtown East used a strong second quarter to defeat the Bears, 60-50.

Downingtown jumped out to a 15-11 lead after one quarter, then upped the advantage to by halftime, 39-25. Boyertown cut the lead in half in the third quarter, but could not complete the come back.

Corcoran had another good night offensively, leading the team with 22 points, including three, three-point buckets. Bauman chipped in with 14 points and Kyle Dennin added six.

Girls’ Basketball

The Boyertown Area High School girls’ basketball team improved to 5-2 in the PAC-10 and 13-2 overall after winning a pair of games last week.

The Lady Bears began the week with a league home game against Phoenixville. Boyertown had little trouble in this game as the Bears cruised to a 63-36 victory.

The Lady Bears jumped out to an 18-7 lead after one quarter, then pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring the Lady Phantoms, 23-11.

Dee Terry led the Boyertown offense with 13 points, while Abby Kapp netted 12. Hannah Jaskuta scored nine points and Ali Bauman added eight.

On Jan. 18, the Bears traveled to Easton for a non-league contest. Boyertown got off to a good start and it was enough to lead them to a 48-31 victory.

The Lady Bears jumped out to a 13-4 lead after one quarter, then pulled away in the fourth quarter, outscoring Easton, 13-4.

Kapp paced the Boyertown offense with 12 points in the contest. Marcia Garofolo was right behind him with 10 points, while Bauman canned eight and Jordan Webb had five.

Wrestling

The Boyertown Area High School wrestling team improved to 17-0 overall this season after a pair of non-league wins.

The Bears began the week with a 46-11 victory over Easton.

Winning by pins for Boyertown were: Jordan Wood (285), 0:48; Garrett Mauger (120), 3:19; William Scholl (182), 3:52; Michael Fretz (195), 5:59.

Winning by decisions for the Bears were: Jakob Campbell (106), David Campbell (113), 8-3; Chris Berry (132), 6-5; Eddie Kriczky (138), 5-2; Gregg Harvey (160), 10-2; Cody Richmond (170), 14-5; Jordan Wertz (220), 3-0.

On Jan. 23, the Bears defeated Upper Darby in another non-league battle, 63-7.

Winning by pins for Boyertown were: Eddie Kriczky (145), 1:15; Hunter Vogelz (152), 1:12; Gregg Harvey (160), 2:14; William Scholl (182), 2:28; Jordan Wertz (220), 1:00; Jordan Wood (285), 0:46; Lucas Miller (126), 3:45; Chris Berry (132), 1:56; and Dylan Wertz (138), 1:02.

Winning by decisions for Boyertown were: Jakob Campbell (106), 2-1; and Garrett Mauger (120), 2-0.

Boys’ Swimming

The Boyertown Area High School boys’ swimming team improved to 2-1 in the league and 3-1 overall after defeating Exeter on Jan. 17, 86-84.

Winning individual events for the Bears were: Patrick Lance, 100 fly (55.82 seconds); and Jeremy Glasner, 100 back (59.40 seconds).

Also winning for Boyertown was the 200 free relay team of Lance, Rhett Watts, Nick Savino and Andrew Grofe (1:36.89).

Girls’ Swimming

The Boyertown Area High School swim team improved to 1-2 in the league and 2-2 overall after defeating Exeter on Jan. 17, 101-69.

Laura Simpson led the way for Boyertown with a pair of individual wins. Simpson was first in the 200 free (2:05.43) and the 100 free (56.69 seconds).

Olivia Savino was first in the 100 breast in a time of 1:10.93.

Also winning for Boyertown was the 200 free relay team of Delanie Davis, Cara Megill, Savino and Simpson (1:48.44); and the 400 free relay team of Catherine Coates, Paige Wrigley, Megill and Simpson (3:54.77).

Oley Valley

Boys’ Basketball

The Oley Valley High School boys’ basketball team dropped a pair of games last week and fell to 1-6 in the Berks League and 3-13 overall.

The Lynx began the week with a non-league road game at Twin Valley. Despite a slow start, Twin Valley was able to come back and defeat the Lynx, 55-38.

Oley jumped out to a 16-11 lead, then the Raiders cut the lead to one by halftime, 24-23. Twin Valley pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Lynx in the third quarter, 19-7, and the fourth quarter, 13-7.

Ben Kerkeslager led the Oley Valley offense with 22 points in the game. Calvary Gollwitzer netted six points and Sebastian Williamson scored four.

On Jan. 23, the Lynx got back into Berks League action with a road game at Kutztown. The game was close throughout, but it was Kutztown that came out on top, 59-56.

Kerkeslager paced the Oley Valley offense with 21 points in the contest, while Williamson was right behind him with 20 points.

Girls’ Basketball

The Oley Valley High School girls’ basketball team improved to 6-0 in the Berks League and 11-5 overall after winning a pair of games last week.

The Lady Lynx began the week with a home game against Berks League opponent, Wyomissing. Oley Valley had no trouble winning this game, 61-16.

Oley took control of the game early, outscoring the Spartans in the first quarter, 24-2. The put the game away in the third quarter, outscoring Wyomissing, 19-4.

Amanda Rizzuti led the Oley Valley offense with 22 points in the contest. Brandi Vallely scored 15 points and Victoria Moll netted 11. Kayla Matuszak chipped in with eight points.

On Jan. 18, Oley Valley played host to Kennett in a non-league game. The Lady Lynx used a big first half to defeat Kennett, 58-52.

The Lynx jumped out to a 19-2 lead after one quarter, then expanded the advantage to 17 by halftime, 30-13. Kennett fought back in the second half, but could not complete the comeback.

Taylor Renninger led the Oley Valley offense with 20 points, while Rizzuti was right behind her with 19 points. Moll scored eight and Vallely added seven.

Boys’ Bowling

The Oley Valley High School boys’ bowling team fell to 8-16 in the Berks League after losing a 3-0 decision to Governor Mifflin on Jan. 23.

Dylan Allen led the Oley team wit a three-game series of 547. Jacob Hitt bowled a 537 series.

Girls’ Bowling

The Oley Valley High School girls’ bowling team fell to 20-4 in the Berks League after losing a 2-1 decision to Governor Mifflin on Jan. 23.

Brittany Gust was the high roller for Oley Valley with a three-game series of 580. Haley Youse bowled a series of 562.
