Keystone State Rollin’ Renegades had plenty of Valentine’s bruises to give during their match “My Bloody Valentine” at the Hamburg Field House on Feb. 16.

Changing it up a bit from recent matches, the team split in two and played each other.

“Today we’ve got two teams both from KSRR,” said J.R. Manitoba, announcer. “Very originally named. It took a lot of planning. We’ve got the Yellow team versus the Blue team.”

As usual, the derby began with a crash course in the rules of roller derby and an explanation of what happens during jams. This match was a little different as the teams were playing with fewer players out at a time since it was one team split. Rather than the typical 15 minute quarters, the teams played 10 minute quarters.

The whistle blew and the jam was on. They may have been part of the same team, but that did not mean the sides took it easy on each other as there were shoves and brawls all over the floor during the jams.

“We’d like to also thank each and every one of you for coming out tonight,” said Manitoba.

Fan filled the bleachers cheering for their favorite players and enjoying watching teammates play against each other. It was a great way for roller derby fans to get out of the house after all the weather that has been hitting the area lately.

The band STORM provided musical entertainment before and during halftime. STORM is a reincarnation of the band which performed in Berks County in the late 70s at that time featuring the lead guitar styling of the late Brad Ennis. The new STORM has dedicated themselves to bringing the same quality music and showmanship as the original. STORM is a classic and modern rock dance band.

Also at the match was jewelry by Devious Designs and a Girl Scout selling Girl Scout cookies. A raffle happened during halftime. The after party was held at The Westy Bar & Grill as a chance for fan and skaters to relax after the match

The next home match at the Hamburg Field House is April 13. For more information on KSRR visit www.KSRR.org.
