Hamburg Athletic Hall of Fame inductees to be honored during Dec. 13 ceremony

Hamburg Area High School is hosting its annual Athletic Hall of Fame Induction ceremony during halftime of the boys varsity basketball game vs Northwestern Leigh following the junior varsity game which starts at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13. This year’s inductees are Dave Best, Brad Kummerer and Byrd Stoudt.

Dave BestBest spent 45 years as a Hamburg Area Wrestling coach. During 17 of those years as the high school head coach, the team had 167 wins including a 20-win season in 1996-97 and were the Division Champions. He spent four years as the junior high head coach and 24 years as the assistant wrestling coach.

Brad KummererKummerer is a 2007 graduate of Hamburg Area High School. He received four letters while on the Hamburg Area High School Wrestling team and was captain in 2007. The four-time PIAA medalist has a career record of 159-19. He was a two-time regional, four-time District 3, four-time sectional, three-time BCIAA champion and was named to All-Berks in 2005, 2006 and 2007. School records for season include: Wins (49), TF (17) and TD (137). School records for career include: Wins (159), TF (31) and TD (288). He has been the Hamburg Area High School assistant wrestling coach for six years.

Byrd StoudtStoudt is a 1950 graduate of Hamburg Area High School. He received four letters in baseball and four letters in soccer during his time at the high school. In 1949 he received the county batting title and was part of the county champions in 1947, 1948, 1949 and 1950. Stoudt received a BS in Education from East Stroudsburg State. During that time he received four letters for baseball and soccer as well as the batting title in 1953 and was part of the Eastern Collegiate Champion soccer team in 1953. Stoudt’s professional baseball career includes New York Yankees – Norfolk in 1954, St. Louis Cardinals – Hannibal in 1955 and Decatur in 1956. He also received his Masters in Physical Therapy from Temple University.
