GIRLS BASKETBALL: Oley Valley ends its season with district loss to York Catholic

The Oley Valley High School girls basketball team completed the season on Feb. 20 with a second round District 3 loss to York Catholic, 58-28, The Lady Lynx advanced to the second round with a victory over Tulpehocken in the first round. Oley Valley finished with an overall record of 12-12 this season, after going 6-4 in the Berks League.

The Lynx had to travel to York Catholic for their match-up. York Catholic proved to be a tough opponent as they took control of the game early in the game, leading after one quarter, 21-9. The lead was extended to 21 points at halftime, 38-17. The York Catholic defense took over in the second half, holding the Lynx to just 11 second half points.

Amanda Rizzuti paced the Oley Valley offense with 21 points in the contest. Kayla Matuszak netted five points and Emily Moyer scored the other two points.

The Lady Lynx opened the district playoffs Feb. 17 when they traveled to New Schaefferstown to take on a familiar foe, Tulpehocken. The two teams crossed paths twice during the Berks League season, with each team winning on its home court. This time the home court advantage was no advantage as the Lynx went into Tulpehocken’s home court and came away with a 42-33 victory.

It was a low-scoring affair in the first half, with Oley taking a 6-4 lead after one quarter, then leading at halftime, 18-13. Oley put a littke distance between it and the Trojans, outscoring Tulpy in the third quarter, 11-6.

Taylor Renninger was the high scorer for Oley Valley with 18 points in the game. Aulenbach chipped in with 10 points and 11 rebounds, while Matuszak scored eight points and Rizzuti netted four.
