Two Chester County students were recently named recipients of Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer’s Union League Good Citizenship Award.

Christopher DeHaven of Bayard Rustin High School and Jared Lawler of Twin Valley were among 20 award winners. They were honored as part of Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer’s Annual Awards Banquet on March 7 at the Holiday Inn Conference Center-Lehigh Valley.

“We were overwhelmed by the number and quality of applicants,” said Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer Chief Executive Officer Chris Branscome. “Jared and Christopher both demonstrated excellence on the field and in the community. We’re excited to follow their careers through high school and beyond.”

DeHaven competes for the Knights’ boys soccer and track teams in addition to Science Olympiad. He carries a 4.19 grade point average.

Lawler is a member of the National Honors Society and serves as the Student Body President. He plays for the Raiders varsity soccer team.

The Union League Good Citizenship Award is handed out annually to 20 high school juniors involved with Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer who best exemplify qualities of good sportsmanship, serious scholarship, cooperative effort, and perseverance. Recipients are eligible to apply for a college scholarship worth at least $5,000 per year. This year, a record 126 students applied for the prestigious award.

All Good Citizenship Award winners will take part in Good Citizenship Day on May 13, an all-day leadership program and awards dinner at the Union League.

The Union League of Philadelphia was founded in 1862 as a patriotic society to support the Union Army and the policies of President Abraham Lincoln during the American Civil War. The Union League has hosted U.S. presidents, heads of state, industrialists, entertainers, and visiting dignitaries from around the globe. It continues to be driven by its founding motto, “Love of Country Leads.”
