Five students from Berks County were recognized by Congressman Patrick Meehan with the Congressional Scholar-Athlete Award last night. This award is given to students who exemplify the selfless dedication to school and sports that define the leaders of tomorrow. The students received the award at a reception held last night at Ridley High School in Folsom, Delaware County.

The winning students include: Jessica Flack – Boyertown Area Senior High School; Alayna Roesener – Daniel Boone High School; Andrew Kresge – Daniel Boone High School; Sebastian Williamson – Oley Valley High School; Magdelynn Mege – Oley Valley High School.

Approximately two hundred students and family members were on hand as nearly a hundred high school juniors received the award. More than 40 high schools from throughout the 7th Congressional District selected one male and one female senior for recognition.

“It is an honor to recognize this group of students who have excelled academically in the classroom and athletically on the playing field,” said Congressman Meehan. “The students here tonight have shown what can be achieved with hard-work and determination. The versatility of their success is a true reflection of both their ability and the commitment of their parents and educators, who have helped guide them this far. Each of these students should be proud of their accomplishments. I wish them all the best of luck in whatever the future holds for them.”

St. Joseph’s University Men’s Basketball Head Coach Phil Martelli was the keynote speaker at the reception and spoke of the importance of leadership both on the court and within the community.
