For Exeter Township High School senior Cassandra Whitmoyer, running is important. So when she went shopping for a college to attend next fall, she wanted a college where running was important. In the end, that college was Edinboro University. She recently signed her letter-of-intent to run cross country and track for the Fighting Scots.

Whitmoyer , who runs the 800 and the mile for the Exeter Eagles, is looking forward to attending Edinboro.

“I’m excited to go to a school in which running is an important sport,” said Whitmoyer. “I really liked the campus when I made my visit in March. It was a nice and quiet campus with a very nice indoor track facility. The coaches were very welcoming and got to meet some of the team as well. They were all very inviting to me. I stayed overnight and had a very good time. It didn’t take me long to realized that this was where I wanted to be.”

Whitmoyer also seriously considered Millersville, East Stroudsburg and Lock Haven as school to attend. Cassandra said it was a difficult choice, but knowing the success the track and cross country programs have had at Edinboro made the Fighting Scots her top choice.

Right now she is completing her final season on the Exeter High track and field team. She is looking forward to running at the college level, but she will also miss her time at Exeter.

“I became very close with all of my teammates here,” said Whitmoyer. “We have all been inspired with the success other Exeter athletes who have done well in college. Hopefully I will be able to inspire the younger runners here at Exeter when I’m competing at Edinboro. It’s going to be a challenge, but I’m ready for it.”
