On Saturday, Sept. 12, Green Valleys Watershed Association will host the 2015 Run for Green Valleys, featuring two trail races that begin and end at the historic Welkinweir arboretum and nature sanctuary in East Nantmeal Township. The scenic routes will lead runners through the rolling hills of northern Chester County and some of the picturesque watersheds the organization strives to preserve.

A 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk around the nature sanctuary, featuring stream crossings and natural trail surfaces, will be held at 8:45 a.m. prior to the trail race start at 9 a.m. The 3.5-Mile Trail Race will challenge runners of all abilities on a loop along the rugged and scenic Horse-Shoe Trail. The event raises funds to support the nonprofit organization’s water quality monitoring and protection, as well as environmental education and outreach programs.

Runners may register by contacting Kelsey Stanton at 610-469-4900 or online at https://www.pretzelcitysports.com/online_registrations.html. Advanced registration by Saturday, Aug. 29 is recommended and will include a t-shirt to all participants 11 and older. Advanced registration is $5 for 10 years and under, $20 for the Fun Run and $25 for the Trail Race. Regular registration is from Aug. 30 to 8:45 a.m. the day of the race and is $10 for 10 years and under, $25 for the Fun Run and $30 for the Trail Race; runners will receive a t-shirt while supplies last. Prizes will be awarded, to present top race finishers, in a ceremony immediately following the Trail Race event.

Refreshments will be available at the conclusion of the race, and parking and restroom facilities are available on site. The Run for Green Valleys is sponsored by Main Line Financial Advisors, Welsh Subaru of Limerick and Iron Cross Athletics, home of Crossfit Phoenixville. We would also like to thank the following businesses for donating to support the event: Chester County Running Store, Owen J. Roberts “Fit for Life” Wellness Council, Exton Eastern Mountain Sports and Kimberton Whole Foods.
