The Kutztown Area High School Athletic Hall of Fame honored former two-sport standout Megan Conrad and coaching icon Harry McGonigle and the 1959 state championship boys basketball team in a ceremony held on Oct. 21.

The event was held prior to the Kutztown/Wyomissing football game and the honorees were recognized at halftime of the game.

Conrad, a 2004 graduate, was a two-sport star in field hockey and softball. She went on to play softball at Lehigh University and has since returned to Kutztown as an assistant softball coach, helping the team to a District 3 championship in 2016.

McGonigle accumulated nearly 700 wins as coach of the Kutztown tennis programs for more than 45 years. His boys’ tennis teams earned 14 division title wins or ties, 4 Berks County Championships, and 1 District 3 title. His teams had 104 straight league wins between 1977 and 1983. McGonigle, who taught at Kutztown for 38 years, is a member of the Berks County Tennis Association Hall of Fame and was five times the Berks County Coach of the Year.

The 1959 basketball team went undefeated (29-0), winning the Berks County, District 3 and PIAA State Class B Championship. Coached by John Silan, the team was comprised of Stanley Saul, Philip Scheidt, Dennis DeTurk, Lee DeTurk, Gene Stump, Richard Hauck, Milton Borrell, Edwin Kutz, Harry Kline, Terry Christman, Glenroy Wiltrout, Kraig Wagaman, and Daryl Diehl (manager).
