The annual Coventry Mall Race Car Show, organized by Scott Hoffmaster, takes place this weekend from March 10-12 at the Pottstown shopping center. Featured in the show will be racers from nearby Grandview Speedway, Montgomery County Quarter Midget Club (located in Phoenixville), Wicked Effects Car Club and much more.
There is no admission charge and racers can display their cars free of charge. However cars must be registered in advance.
This is a great opportunity for fans to see the new race cars on display, meet some racers and get information on what is going on at area tracks.
According to the mall website, the show opens at noon on Friday and closes at 6 p.m. on Sunday.

* * *In just a few weeks, the Bridgeport, N.J., Speedway will honor one of its own when the Fifth Annual 60 Over Special | Doug Hoffman Memorial Weekend opens the 2017 season on the 5/8th mile speedway.
Many credit Doug Hoffman for the resurgence of the Bridgeport Speedway.
The four-time track champion took over the reins for the 2012 speedway.
The Bridgeport Speedway will open the gates on the 2017 season with the running of the fifth annual 60 Over Special/Doug Hoffman Memorial Weekend on March 24th and 25th. This will be the first time that the event will be run as a two-day event.
Friday night action will see the return of the 358 Small Block Modifieds for a 25-lap, $2,500 to win main event. It will be the first race of the season for the DA’s Auto Body & Repair Rookies on the 5/8th mile track. All divisions will have the opportunity to participate in the open practice sessions on Friday night so that they can prepare for Saturday’s racing action. Pit gates will open at 3 p.m. with grandstand access at 6pm. Racing will get underway at 7:30pm.
On Saturday night, the Spirit Auto Center Big Block Modifieds will compete in qualifying events for a forty-four lap feature event with $4,400 going to the winner. Pits will open at noon, grandstands at 2 p.m. and racing will get underway at 4 p.m. (There is a rain date set for Sunday, March 26th should it be needed.)

The Pioneer Pole Buildings mobile sales unit will be on display at all of the Thunder on the Hill Racing Series events kicking off on Sunday, May 28 with the Triple Thunder Thriller a 358 vs. Big Block Modified showdown that includes Sportsman, and MASS Sprint Cars.
NAPA Auto Parts continues their long run with Thunder on the Hill as the Series title sponsor, joined by Pioneer Pole Buildings, Quaker Steak and Lube, and GALCO Business Communications.
* * *Dover International Speedway is expanding its annual salute to our hometown heroes by welcoming all fans to The Smokehouse benefiting the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) on Sunday, Oct. 1.
The 10th annual event, which supports the NFFF, will take place in the Monster Mile’s hospitality village prior to the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race on Oct. 1.
NFFF events in previous years were open exclusively to firefighters and their families. This year, all fans can enjoy the experience, which includes a ticket to the Oct. 1 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race, driver Q&A sessions, food, beverages and more.
Tickets are $109 before Aug. 30, and $129 after, with proceeds benefiting the NFFF. Through the program’s first nine years, more than $700,000 has been raised for the NFFF.
The ticket price includes a Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series ticket, a Trackside Access pass, an all-you-can-eat buffet with Pepsi and Anheuser-Busch products, as well as driver Q&A sessions that morning.
Firefighter organizations can also vie for the Firehouse Challenge Trophy, by bringing the most guests to the event.
* * *Bill Henning will not be driving at Grandview Speedway this season but the Henning Trains/Lionel Trains BRC NASCAR Late Model will still be in action. A new driver, Steve Wilson, who has seen action at Grandview in the past will be driving the Lansdale based race car owned by Harry Henning. A new number will be in place and that will be No. 15 at the request of Wilson. Wilson has been racing in Enduro competition and has been quite successful. He is looking to carry that success over to the very competitive Late Model division. Again this season Harry Henning and his Lionel team will be giving out some sets of Lionel trains. The night that will happen will be announced by Grandview management. Business at the train store must be good as they are expanding their store and hope to have it all done by September.
Sponsorship support, so important in auto racing, will come from M&D Automotive, The Cannoneer’s Sportsman Club of Lansdale, Cottman Transmission, Hanson Law Firm, Normandy Farms and Fredericks Meats at the Quakertown “Q”.
They are looking forward to the free-to-the-public practice day on March 25th at the Bechtelsville racing facility.
