    For Exeter Township High School senior Cassandra Whitmoyer, running is important. So when she went shopping for a college to attend next fall, she wanted a college where running was important. In the end, that college was Edinboro University. She recently signed her letter-of-intent to run cross country and track for the Fighting Scots.

    BASEBALL: Governor Mifflin defeats Daniel Boone for Berks League championship

    When the Berks County League baseball season began, the Governor Mifflin Mustangs were the odds on favorites to win the championship. With that kind of pressure on their backs, the Mustangs only went 7-3 in the regular season and finished in second place behind Exeter in Division 1.     Kreitz finishes with a flurry at Kutztown U.

    It turned out to be a very good way for Boyertown grad Travis Kreitz to end his college baseball career. He hit .302 in his senior season at Kutztown University this spring, led the team in home runs with eight, and was tied for second on the team n doubles with eight. He was third on the team with 17 RBIs and scored 13 runs in 38 games played.

    GIRLS BASKETBALL: Oley Valley ends its season with district loss to York Catholic

    The Oley Valley High School girls basketball team completed the season on Feb. 20 with a second round District 3 loss to York Catholic, 58-28, The Lady Lynx advanced to the second round with a victory over Tulpehocken in the first round. Oley Valley finished with an overall record of 12-12 this season, after going 6-4 in the Berks League.

    Daniel Boone Jr. Legion Orioles take second in state regional tournament

    The Daniel Boone Jr. Legion Orioles made it all the way to the championship game of the state regional tournament in Pottstown. With a 7-2 loss to Nether Providence (a team the Orioles lost to earlier in the tournament), Boone was eliminated from the tournament, winning three games and losing two.

    Many positives in the Hamburg Reds’ season

    With a victory already under their belts, the Hamburg Sr. American Legion Reds were poised to go far in the Schuylkill/Berks League earlier this month. But their dreams of a league championship faded away when they lost their next two games to be eliminated from the tournament.

    Rebuilding year for Exeter Jr. City/County

    No coach likes the word “rebuilding,” but you might have to use it to describe the 2014 season for the Exeter Jr. City/County baseball team. The Cardinals return just two players from last year’s team, and have just one 16 year-old on the team. It will definitely be a learning season.
