    Last season at Grandview Speedway Doug Manmiller was only able to muster up one feature victory to his credit in the NASCAR Modified division. On Saturday night he won his second feature race of the season and showed that he is planning to be a factor in the chase for the point title. Defending champion Jared Umbenhauer drove to his second win of the season in the Sportsman division while past champion Chuck Schutz got his first win of the season in the Late Model feature race.

    It’s been another great start for Mandi Baer in 2014. Sporting a .440 batting average (11-for-25) with eight runs scored and five driven in, the Daniel Boone graduate is doing everything she can to help the Bloomsburg University softball team win games.

    Four local wrestlers advance to state tournament

    For four local high school wrestlers, dreams of a state gold medal are still alive. Schuylkill Valley’s Josh Giorgio and Ryan Ramich, as well as Hamburg’s Cody Miller and Sean Stanish competed in this past weekend’s Class AA Southeast Regional Tournament at Wilson High School, and qualified for this coming weekend’s state championship tournament in Hershey.

    Few players have had the impact that Tyler Zilen has had on the Boyertown Area High School football team. His awards, too numerous to for all to be mentioned, included being named to the 2013 All PAC-10 first team offense as a tight end, and the second team defense as a defensive end.

    Brandywine Heights sends two to regionals

    Dan Schmeck and Hunter Gimbor’s high school wrestling season will continue on. The Brandywine Heights duo each finished in third place at this past weekend’s District 3-AA Wrestling Tournament held in Hershey. As a result, both will advance on to the Southeast Regional Tournament at Wilson High School on Feb. 28 and March 1.

    Exeter’s Brett Kulp and Governor Mifflin’s Jan Johnson led the local wrestling contingent with first place medals at the District 3-AAA Championships held Feb. 21 and 22 in Hershey.
