The Boyertown Area Choral Association (BACA) is celebrating their 25th anniversary this year, and no better way to celebrate it than with a free concert at Good Shepard Church on Sunday, May 3. Although BACA typically sticks with classical music and occasionally throws in some Pop and Show tunes, this upcoming performance seems that it may be different.
In remembrance of their dearly departed choral director Margaretta (Peg) Lamb, who passed away this past February, BACA will be performing a variation of songs that highlights some of Lamb’s music that she taught to her students over the years. Director Donna House commented on what to expect for this concert by saying, “This one is a huge mix compared to other years.”
The songs that are planned on being performed for the upcoming concert vary from pieces from Billy Joel, Carly Simon and Celtic Women. A specific piece that the chorus will be singing is I Hear a Voice a Prayin’, an African Spiritual piece that is also commonly performed among high school choral organizations.
To add to the variation included in this year’s concert, BACA will be having two guest singers. The soprano vocals of Gwynne Geyer and Koreen Nace will be making a special guest appearance in singing the piece Ave Maria, a popular Latin-text song commonly performed by choral organizations.
BACA is composed of citizens throughout the Boyertown region, rather than just Boyertown alumni. Some of its members reside in neighboring towns such as Pottstown.
While the group is busy preparing for the upcoming concert, it has not taken away from their yearly honor of giving a scholarship to one Boyertown High School student in the music department. The student who receives the scholarship is one who excels with music, and plans to further their education in music after high school.
