Nestled among stores and businesses in the Weis Plaza in Maxatawny Township is a treasure trove of everything owner Pat Geist loves, and she wants to share it with the community.
Classy Ladies Boutiques held a soft opening on Oct. 30 after taking over a 2,300 square-foot commercial space previously utilized as an office for GT Church.
Geist, a 30-year resident of Maxatawny with her husband Rick, redecorated the space with new paint, shelving, and a new counter, did some necessary repairs and filled the shop with home décor items, apparel, and health and beauty supplies.
Nature and travel photos taken by Geist, and available in a multitude of sizes, brighten the store's walls and are available for purchase.
“It takes a few times to get the full appreciation of it,” Geist said of the wide variety of new and a few gently used items she stocks. “We’re especially focused on unique items for gift giving. Everything I enjoy in life I want to share with the ladies of the community and beyond.”
A practicing doctor of naturopathy in Maxatawny for 25 years at her own practice, Advanced Holistic Health Center, Geist is tying health products into her inventory with all natural vitamins, minerals, teas, herbal remedies and essential oils, with a full line of protein powders added to the mix.
“All natural, that’s been my life. I live what I’ve taught others,” she said.
Moving into the new year, Geist plans on holding community seminars on health and beauty techniques, with fashion shows added to the schedule to open the minds of shoppers to the boutique-style clothing Geist will be stocking, hopefully, she said, from an American-made wholesaler.
“One of our first seminars will be ten steps to developing good health,” Geist said, making the connection to the food items in her inventory. “We carry gourmet foods because cooking is a big part of my life.”
The Northeast Berks Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting for the new store on Nov. 21, an event that Geist said showed the support of the chamber of which she is now a member.
“We were just thrilled by all the chamber members that came in the night of our ribbon-cutting,” Geist said. “They were so encouraging.”
Chamber Executive Director Lori Donofrio-Galley believes Classy Ladies Boutiques complements the destination retailers on Kutztown’s Main Street.
She said, “combining clothing, accessories, home décor, and natural products will entice area shoppers.”
Geist explains that knowing the community as she does from living in the area, she plans to keep her costs down to appeal to the practical nature of shoppers.
According to Geist, the response to Classy Ladies Boutiques has been favorable.
“Customers say there is no place in Kutztown to get a nice gift. We have men coming in to shop for their wives,” she said. “Many of the customers have commented that they don’t have to drive to the cities. I’m like a personal shopper. I try to pick things people in the area would like or need.”
