Tamu Ngina, LMT, RMT of Kutztown hosted a Grand Opening event for MEND Soul Holistic Arts at 253 W. Main St. in Kutztown on May 15.

“Healing arts is my passion,” she said.

Ngina is a licensed massage therapist, Japanese Reiki Master and teacher, professionally trained reflexologist, Buddhist minister and meditation teacher. Even her art work, displayed and for sale, is a form of healing, featuring a spiritual theme. For instance, the tree of life is one of her motifs. She uses soft music and Japanese incense to help people relax during a session. She also asks people to remove their shoes upon entering.

“We had a good turn out for the open house,” she said.

Her son Jamal Damien, 17, a Kutztown junior, played Jazz trumpet and her youngest Jackson Tamir, 5, played keyboard and sang and danced during the Grand Opening.

“Probably since about 2007 I had the dream of opening my own practice,” said Ngina.

In April, she walking along Main Street when she saw the for rent sign at 253 W. Main and said, “It’s time to go for it.”

She opened MEND Soul Holistic Arts shortly after.

“The MEND is an acronym for my philosophy of self maintenance and wellness which includes Meditation, Energy work, Nature and Deep breathing, thus MEND,” she said.

She offers Reiki, foot reflexology, and massage therapy, as well as a meditation group, meditation and Reiki classes, and various workshops.

“I’m a mother at heart and I really enjoy taking care of other people. I really believe that our health and well-being is totally in our own hands. As a wellness practitioner, I’m able to assist other people to take care of themselves through the lessons and tools that I’ve learned.”

Because her passion is foot reflexology, her motto is “love your feet and your body will love you.”

On her website, she posted, “For me it is important to make sure that I am balanced, centered and open to growing into what helps me to be the best me that I can be. It is also important for me to be of service to others. To help others remember their own center, their sanctuary within. Reiki and Meditation are also lifestyle practices that help to align and nourish our souls.”

“I really enjoy helping people and helping people to stay healthy and reach their center,” she said. “Preventative maintenance and well-being. Not always perfect at it but every day is a new day to get it right.”

Ngina encourages people to stop by or come out to a class, workshop or lecture, which will be posted on Facebook and on her website.

Her education and training includes becoming a Reiki Master Teacher under the mentorship of In the Heart of Reiki in Fountain Hill in 2007. In 2008 she graduated from Lehigh Valley Healing Arts Academy in Emmaus with a diploma in Professional Therapeutic Reflexology. In 2010 she became a Pennsylvania Licensed Massage Therapist after graduating from Pennsylvania Institute of Massage therapy in Quakertown with diploma in Therapeutic Massage Therapy. In 2013 she graduated from Bright Dawn Center of Oneness Buddhism where she trained in non-sectarian Buddhism and focused on meditation and began leading a Meditation Community, Sanctuary Center Within, and teaching meditation in 2014.
