“THIS IS IT” is a multimedia art show from Norma Weingast Hirsch. Her art will be on display at the Tamaqua Arts Center 125 Pine St , in September. Opening night is Sept. 1 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Complimentary light refreshments and snacks will be served.
Come meet the artist, roam the gallery and enjoy her multifaceted expressions through collage, college, paint and imagination. It will take your breath away as well as spark conversation. While some paintings are from private collections, many selections will be available for sale.
Here is Norma’s bio in her own words:
“I am very fortunate to have a life in the art world. Being multifaceted, I found my passion when I was very young. Learning how to reinvent myself to any situation, commercial or non-commercial, from an exciting career in the Garment Center in New York City as a textile designer, traveling around the world, to art teacher, party planner, and owner of Art N Crafts with Norma, to activities director for retired nuns.
“Now concentrating on my love of painting as a mix media artist specializing in impressionistic landscape and modern contemporary art in oil paint, watercolor and collage. Color and light is my day long obsession, a joy and torment.
From living in New York City to Bergen County, N.J., and on to Orwigsburg, PA, whether painting in my home studio or at the Walk in Art Center in Schuylkill Haven, all projects touch me as I continue exploring the power of art-how it teaches us more about ourselves. When I create art, it enables me to find myself and lose myself at the same time.”
Following her first place recognition in multi-media sponsored by Allied Artists of Schuylkill County this year, she commented: “My background in textile design has brought me to appreciate texture within a piece of art, my collages are very deep in spirit. My collection of artwork is over 50 years of sheer enjoyment. They “say”, you can love your art , but your art can’t love you back. “Not True”. It is a part of you that dives you deep satisfaction and mental stimulation, to look deeply at yourself and the world around you in an abstract way.”
She also received an honorable mention in oil painting at the same show.
The artist is a graduate of the Newark School of Fine & Industrial Arts and studies at the Arts Student league in NYC. She is a member of the Allied Artists of Schuylkill County and an artist in residence at the Walk In Art Center.
