Last week communities throughout the region took time to honor the nation’s veterans — Amity was no exception.
Sixty-six veterans and their guests were treated to “Breakfast and a Show” at Amity Elementary Center on Wednesday, Nov. 11.
Food Services Director Alonza Price and Cafeteria Manager Jeanne Koch served the audience a full breakfast while three student groups set up for the show.
Girl Scouts Mia Davis, Tessa Morton, and Julia Welsh paraded the flags to the stage while the chorus, under the direction of Mary Beth Gray, performed the Star Spangled Banner. The chorus followed with another song “Proud of Our Veterans.”
Erin Seigle’s second grade class recited a poem entitled “Veterans Day.”
The Select Band, under the direction of Lori Snavely, closed the show with “America The Beautiful”.
Students who had invited their veteran came to the cafeteria at the end of the show and escorted their guest back to class for a 45-minute visit. Many of the veterans talked about their roles when they served, addressed the class about life in the military, and answered numerous student questions.
