Attorney E. Kenneth Nyce, 77, husband of Winifred K. (Kolb) Nyce of Bechtelsville died Saturday, February 23, 2008 in the Pottstown Memorial Medical Center where he was a patient since February 20, 2008.Born in Souderton on September 11, 1930 he was the son of the late Earl Kenneth Nyce and Leila (Clymer) Nyce.
He graduated from Boyertown High School as an honor student in 1948, where he was an editor of Boyertown High School Newspaper "The Cub" for two years, 1952 graduate of West Chester State College and a 1954 graduate of Temple University School Of Law.
Served two years, from October 1954 till October 1956 in the Counter Intelligence Corps.
Admitted to practice before Supreme Court of PA on November 12, 1956, admitted to practice in Berks County on December 7, 1956. Served as a Solicitor for B. W. B. School District and B. W. B. School Authority Colebrookdale Township, Borough of Bechtelsville, Berks County Controller, Bechtelsville Municipal Authority and Bechtelsville Borough Zoning Board, served three years as treasurer of Berks County Bar Association from December, 1956 till December, 1959; he served on Board Of Directors of Berks County Bar Association; served as Vice President, President Elect and President of Berks County Bar Association; was instrumental in founding the Berks County Bar Foundation and served as its first president. Elected to two terms as a Mayor of Boyertown, served January, 1966-December, 1971. Elected to Borough Council of Bechtelsville. Served as Democratic Committe man of Borough of Bechtelsville for ten years. Appointed to the Board of Directors of Berks County Democratic Standing Committee and served there for ten years. Served on Board of Directors of Wyomissing Institute of Fine Arts. Served on Board of Directors of Wyndcroft School, Pottstown. Served on Board of Directors Boyertown Area United Way. Served on Board of Directors of Pottstown Memorial Medical Center for eighteen years and he was chairman of several of its subsidiary corporations, including Skippack Medical Center and Pottstown Imaging and Cancer Treatment Center. Served on Board of Directors of Boyertown Area Multi-Service.
He practiced Attorney At Law for three years in Reading and later practicing Attorney At Law in Boyertown for forty-seven years until his passing.
He represented numerous churches and fire companies. He was a dinner chairman for Hawk Mountain Council, BS of A 1990 and recipient of the Good Scott Award from Hawk Mountain Council of BS of A.
Proud husband for 47 years to Winifred K. (Kolb) Nyce of Bechtelsville; proud father of Jennifer Firth of Wrentham, MA and proud grandfather of granddaughters, Madeleine Firth and Charlotte Firth; also survived by a sister, Jeannette (Nyce) Stauffer of Waverly, PA. He was predeceased by a brother Jack Nyce.
Services are private and at the convenience of the family.
