Fire crews responded to an apartment building fire on Lancaster Avenue in Shillington, Berks County on Thursday, Feb. 7, that sent a woman to the hospital.
State Police report that emergency responders arrived to find a woman attempting to exit out of a second-floor window while her apartment was on fire. Flames could be observed extending through the second-floor windows of the apartment.
The investigation showed that the fire originated inside of the bedroom where the victim had been. She is the sole occupant of this apartment. She was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital near Allentown for treatment of burns and smoke inhalation.
The apartment building has multiple apartments. All tenants were displaced.
Damage is estimated at about $75,000.
At this time the cause is undetermined; however, no further criminal investigation is anticipated, police said. Several accidental causes are being evaluated.
